Normally I use my regular oven year round, even though I live in the South. My old toaster died, so I decided to replace it with the Ninja Foodi Flip 8-in-1 multipurpose oven. So far, I have made toast (browned perfectly!), baked meatloaf and pizza, air roasted salmon, and air fried coconut shrimp. I bought the recommended black mats and parchment paper for easy cleanup. I love that the oven flips up and leaves me plenty of counter space when not in use, and I haven’t any difficulties cleaning the appliance I know several people who have the various Flip models, and all of us are happy with the Ninja Foodi Flip. I got rid of my old toaster, and I highly recommend the Foodi! What a great product!

Have you ever dreamed of channeling your inner ninja, effortlessly gliding through the shadows, and vanishing into thin air? Well, my fellow stealth enthusiasts, dream no more, because the power of the shadows is just a click away!

Let’s start with the ordering process. Smooth as silk. No need for secret handshakes or smoke signals; just a few clicks and your very own ninja is en route to your doorstep faster than you can say “shuriken.”

Upon arrival, I must admit, I was skeptical. Could an online ninja truly live up to the legendary status of their real-life counterparts? But one swift demonstration later, and my doubts were shattered like a poorly thrown smoke bomb.

First off, let’s talk about versatility. This ninja isn’t just a one-trick pony; oh no, it’s a Swiss Army knife of stealth tactics. Need to sneak past a guard? No problem. Need to scale a wall? Easy peasy. Need to disarm a bomb while dangling from a helicopter? Okay, maybe it can’t do that last one, but you get the idea.

But perhaps the most impressive aspect of the Ninja is its commitment to authenticity. From the sleek black attire to the deadly precision of its moves, every detail screams “I am a force to be reckoned with.” It’s like having a silent guardian watching over you, ready to spring into action at a moment’s notice.

And let’s not forget about customer service. Have a question about proper katana maintenance? Need advice on how to execute the perfect flying kick? Just shoot them an email, and you’ll receive a response faster than you can say “banzai!”

In conclusion, if you’re in the market for a ninja that’s as reliable as it is lethal, then look no further. Just be prepared to keep your wits about you; with great power comes great responsibility, and the power of the shadows is not to be taken lightly.

BEWARE: LONG REVIEW AHEAD! I have been a “toaster oven guy” for a long time, and have had a couple small “analog” toaster ovens for decades. I was a bit skeptical of the “air frying” craze that popped up a few years ago, but my girlfriend has always wanted to try one, due to the theoretical health benefits of “frying” without the need for as much oil/fat. When I found that they had dual toaster over / air fryer combos, I started doing a ton of research and quickly landed on this Ninja Foodi SP101. Here are my thoughts:

      Pros:

      – I love the form factor. It is big enough to hold a “single sheet meal” more than sufficient for two people, no problem, but the device isn’t so tall or bulky that it permanently swallows up a ton of counter space. This oven is only a slightly larger overall footprint than the small toaster ovens I have used in the past, but the slight increase is totally worth it. It easily fits a standard 13″ store-bought frozen pizza, and cooks them perfectly. Other competing models (Breville, Cosori, Cuisinart) are more like second, full-sized ovens that happen to sit on your counter. The fact that this one is shorter and flips up and completely out of the way when not in use is an absolute game changer! It really does save a ton of counter space, which is a valuable premium in our small kitchen.

      – It comes up to temperature faster than literally anything else out there. This oven comes up to temperature in literally less than a minute! That’s significantly faster than the competition, and of course, way faster than your normal full-sized oven. (We barely use our full-sized oven anymore.) I don’t bother “pre-heating” it before putting my food in, as it heats up so quickly as to make that pointless. It is so efficient as an oven that occasionally you do have to shorten recipe times to prevent overcooking your meals.

      – This is single-handedly the best bread / bagel toaster I have ever used, bar none. I always loved the flexibility of a toaster oven to accommodate small food items that were too big (or otherwise inappropriate) for a sliced toaster, but too small to waste heating up the full over for, etc. And microwaved food doesn’t “crisp” or “brown” things at all. But making actual toast was occasionally an afterthought for my old toaster ovens, especially since I’d always had the analog “wind up timer” controls that were wildly inconsistent and unpredictable. You always had to closely monitor them for fear of burning / overcooking your toast or bagels / muffins, etc. Due to the digital time and heat control, this toaster oven makes the most perfectly consistent toast I have ever had. Once you determine your preferred “doneness” setting, your toast will always be perfect…every…single…time. It even accounts for the number of slices of bread / bagels, etc., and slightly extends the time when you have additional (up to NINE) slices in a single go. It sounds a little nuts to be so excited about toast, but this is, for real, the best toaster ever.

      – I like that this model has the fold down bottom door, so with all trays/racks removed (including the crumb tray,) you can easily clean the inside when it is flipped up. Ninja eliminated that feature in later flip-up models (shame on you Ninja!) so if that feature is important to you, be sure to get the SP101, and not a later variant.

      – The different cooking modes are super flexible and easy to use. While I was (and still am) skeptical of “aIr frying” as a concept (let’s be real, it’s really just a small convection oven, there is no “magic” behind air frying,) the multiple different cooking modes (8 for the SP101) are very handy and easy to use. I do like breaded chicken items and fried potato products (tater tots, etc.) using the air fry basket. We regularly use the “one sheet” baking tray cooking method to make air-roasted veggies with chicken, pork, or even beef hamburger patties, and it’s extremely convenient! (Note: The manual says not to use aluminum foil with the baking sheet, but I hate cleaning if I don’t have to, and I have had no issues using aluminum foil to line it…other than the fact that the drip tray/baking sheet is too wide for a single sheet of standard aluminum foil, so super wet or drippy food like bacon will require quick cleaning, but still better using foil than without.)

      – I love the digital controls and consistent heat control. The temperature isn’t 100% perfect in terms of accuracy, but it’s way more accurate than old-school, analog temperature controls. I appreciate the digital timer, and love that the oven light comes on automatically with 30 seconds remaining in your oven time.

      – Aesthetically, I like the slight curve to the top where the timer / temperature display is. Later flip-up, or other larger models have a basic, boring, “flat” look. The visibility into the oven is better for this model than other later models as well, IMHO. (Later models also have a painted black bezel on the front glass for some reason.) This is a minor thing, but I definitely like the look of the SP101 better than similar, later models.

      Cons:

      – This oven is a little short, so you won’t be making full sized chickens or turkeys, but that is what your full sized over is for anyway. As a result of the low height, with the drip tray on the wire rack, the use of the air fry basket doesn’t always get the best air circulation. (I leave the wire rack in with the wires on top, so its easier to get your toast out when used as a toaster, but that reduces the space between the air fry basket and the drip/baking tray even more. Yes, you can flip the wire rack when using as an air fryer to give a *little* extra space, but I’m lazy, and it’s really not much difference.) If there were even a half inch more space between the bottom of the fry basket and the drip tray, it would be better.

      – Similarly, due to the lower height, there aren’t as many rack / spacing options. You can: 1. Use as a toaster, with bread/food directly on the wire rack. 2. Use as a roaster / broiler/ oven with the baking tray sitting directly on the wire rack, 3. Use the air fry basket, with or without the baking/drip tray (although we’ve never used without the baking tray as a drip tray, however, as I am paranoid something will drip on the heating elements and flare up or otherwise smoke…plus we don’t want to have to clean the interior of the oven very often.) As noted above, the air circulation could be better when using the fry basket with the drip tray. If Ninja simply made the baking tray big enough to slide directly into the slot for the wire rack, this would solve the spacing issue, but perhaps it would negatively impact air circulation.

      – The air fry basket is a bit of a PITA to clean. Sponges or scotch-brite pads will quickly get destroyed and shred to pieces when trying to clean the basket after making chicken wings or other similarly fatty/drippy foods. A small brass wire brush is the only effective cleaning solution here. Go ahead and buy one now. You will thank me later. The air fry basket and baking tray are technically both dishwasher safe, but I have only ever hand washed these, as I am a little finicky. I wouldn’t trust a dishwasher to be able to remove baked on crud out of the air fry basket, for sure.

      – First time use smell. It is noted in the manual that the oven interior should thoroughly wiped down and then run on it’s highest temperature setting for several hours (without food in it) to burn off any production residue, etc. I strongly recommend doing this initial “burn off” somewhere with VERY GOOD ventilation. Outdoors, if you can. The fumes this thing cranked out when we did this initial cleaning cook were noxious and not pleasant at all. (My GF had to take refuge in the basement until I was able to air out our kitchen.) It was totally fine after that, and has been great ever since, but I would definitely run this thing outside if possible the first time.

Overall, I am VERY happy with this toaster oven, and can STRONGLY recommend it for anyone who wants the features of an oven, air fryer, and toaster all wrapped up into one, but doesn’t want another huge appliance sucking up a ton of precious counter space. It is absolutely perfect for small kitchens or when you want oven baked food, but don’t want to heat up a full sized oven. One and two person meals are a snap in this thing, and it is just incredibly convenient and efficient.

This ninja air fryer is fantastic. It has a lot of different settings for cooking. I love the digital display. It was pretty easy to figure out how to use it. I love how you can fold it up after use to free up your counter space. Just be advised that there is no manual or instructions included in this purchase.

    5. Mavoo's Computing Services

Only have had this for a bit over a month. So far very happy with it. This replaced a medium sized tabletop convection oven/toaster and using for “frying” instead of a micro/convection/air fryer combo and an oil deep fryer.

      PROS:
++Very good with frozen foods like French fries etc
++Large capacity air fryer basket. Especially helpful when doing large number of items since a deep fryer may only take a few minutes to fry something when this might take 20.
++Great for spur of the moment cravings for French fries or tator tots without having to pull out deep fryer, fill with oil, wait for it to heat up, fry, then clean up, strain oil, etc
++Does a good job with toasting- not the best with evenness but perfectly acceptable. I mainly eat sliced rounds of sourdough bread, so much larger than “regular” bread so they will not fit in a pop up type toaster. It definitely does a better faster job of toasting than the convection/toaster oven it replaced.
++Love the temperature probe. I even took a chance on cooking thick ribeye steaks in it. Used the sear tray and turned the steaks over half way through cooking. Put the temp probe in the steak before starting and the oven turned itself off at the correct temperature and after letting the steaks rest as usual after cooking, they came out perfectly medium rare with a decent crust on the outside. Though not quite as good as a cast iron pan or a grill they came out great. Also the temp probe temperature matched my instant read thermometer.
++Love that it has an oven light that you can turn on and see what’s going on inside. Especially helpful to me when doing toast. As I haven’t yet gotten used to the proper setting (time) for toasting
++Like that it will store upright to free up counter space. I just put the three trays inside then fold it up. I hadn’t realized how much space that the oven it replaced took up.

      CONS:
—Made fried chicken. I like chicken thighs so they have a lot of fat in them. I breaded them as usual and did two batches. I used the temp probe which was very helpful but the chicken only came out so so. It was edible but no where near what deep frying in oil would do. Chicken itself was cooked and juicy but the breading had much to be desired. Biggest issue is that there is nowhere for the fat and juices to go except drop onto the lower heating elements and bottom pull out ‘crumb tray’
      — It is not easy to clean. After doing chicken and the steaks trying to clean the inside was a frustrating time consuming effort. After I had done the chicken, I cleaned it as well as I could then ended up running the oven at 500 degrees for about an hour to burn off the residue remaining. Filled the house with smoke but got most of the residue out. Still see ‘stains’ where stuff/fat had splattered.
      — The glass in the door is inset so when you pull out the fry basket or toast, the crumbs just fall into the deep set window, it’s like a pool that just catches everything.

      OVERALL:
I am really happy I purchased this. The large capacity, toasting and to my surprise -when cooking two steaks that were almost $60- cooks steaks satisfactory++ though not as good as a grill. The temp probe accurately shuts down the oven when cooking. Do have to obviously adjust cooking time with prepared frozen foods/French fries etc due to freezer temperature. The freezer in my refrigerator is at about 28 degrees while my deep freezer sits at about -5 degrees. Does a good job at toasting bread. Folds up to save on counter space. Without being too picky about it since still on a learning curve on how to use it… biggest problem is it is not easy to clean, the deep set window in the door that catches every darn crumb and no ‘drip tray’ to catch juices from air fryer basket. Overall impression of frying.. it’s great at prepared foods from freezer section at grocery store, it does take longer than deep frying in oil but less mess (French fries, etc) But for fresh made things like fried chicken, I’m going to have to use my Dutch oven on the stove to deep fry instead of using the air fryer, especially since I already gave my deep fryer away.

The first one arrived absolutely crushed. It looked like someone ran over it with a forklift. It was immediately replaced, so not a big deal. I have used the second one many times to make fries, onion rings, chicken fingers, pizza, lasagna, etc. It did all of those things great. I was going to give it 5 stars. Then I tried to make toast, I mean the first picture showed beautifully toasted bread. I usually just make toast in the two piece pop up toaster because it is so easy and that is all I usually need. But we were going to have BLTs for all of us, and who wants to wait for two slices at a time. So I loaded up the Ninja toaster oven. What a disaster. The top was burned and the bottom wasn’t even brown. The only way it would work is to stop and flip the bread half way through and keep a close eye on it as even the light setting resulted in very uneven way to dark on top and way to light on the bottom. So, I guess the old adage that you can’t be all things to everyone is true. It does a lot of things very well, just not everything.

First, it is probably important to know that I am transitioning from an old Samsung Convection Toaster Oven to this and I have only been using this for two weeks.
I looked at other options but they seemed huge (in size). One of the complaints I have read about the Ninja SP101 is that it is smaller. It is. It is good sized in depth and width but lacks (for some) in height. For me, that works but even when I made a good sized amount of nachos I had to press it down a bit so it didn’t get too near the heating element. I am single and cook for 1-2 people and this is ideal. It takes up a bit larger footprint than my ancient Samsung but is lower profile. I don’t mind the lower profile (I prefer it) and unless you are wanting to cook multiple items or any foods that are higher vertical then this is fine. It also looks good sitting on my counter.
      PROS:
I like the controls and after a short learning curve is pretty simple to use.
This pre-heats up quickly and cooks fast.
The first item I cooked was frozen fries and used the Air Fryer. The fries were crisp and tasty. I was very happy with this.
I toasted bread and bagels and it seemed to toast fairly uniformly taking a bit longer that I thought it would considering how powerful this oven is. I’m good with this.
I used Air Broil to make nachos and it was perfect and quick!
I used Bake to make some cookies and used parchment paper and it worked well.
I ordered the casserole dish, thinking the higher sides would help prevent messes. Last night I cooked a wok dinner with tofu cubes, peppers, onions, noodles (boiled first), carrots, broccoli, celery and cashews with a teriyaki marinade. OMG, this was so good and no messes and the new casserole dish is non stick and although lighter and most likely cheaper (in quality), I prefer using this to the pan that came with the oven. Dinner was delicious!
I have not used Dehydrate and Keep Warm functions yet.
The light is a nice feature.
      CONS:
During Air Fry the left front corner seems to cook hotter and burnt the edges of my french fries in this corner. The fries (in just this corner) were still edible just blackened.
I have read that some customers thought the oven was difficult to clean. The sheet pan included with the oven is heavier than the casserole dish I later purchased but it seems more difficult to clean, as I had to make a few attempts to remove cheese. The surface is not smooth and has small bumps on it that concern me, but really not with reason as of yet. My main focus is to keep the oven clean and prevent splattering and boil overs as the heating elements are exposed and I feel are vulnerable. I will be using parchment paper and using the casserole dish more than the sheet pan. I have not made pizza yet but my concern here is that if I set the pizza on the rack there is nothing below it to catch any potential mess and can fall on the heating elements. There is the crumb tray but that is below the heating element. My initial thought was to place the cooking sheet under the wire rack but the sheet (and casserole dish) are designed to sit on top of the rack and don’t use the grooves on the sides to support itself. I tested out putting the crumb tray directly under the wire rack and it does fit so this would protect the heating element but if I’m going to do this, I probably should just use the cooking sheet pan instead. I have often considered putting a silicone baking sheet under the wire rack to catch any drippings or mess but, again, does this defeat the open cooking of using the wire rack? I’d prefer to cook a pizza in a pan rather than drip on the heating element as my biggest concern (from other reviews) was that once it drips on the element it is nearly impossible to clean. Right now I am operating under the delusion of keeping the SP101 new but this is not practical (for any oven).
It would be nice if the tray was spring loaded and would come out when the door was opened. You must manually pull out the tray or wire rack to remove from oven so you really need to have oven mitts at the ready to even add ingredients.
My Air Fry Basket has a minor defect in the middle of it but is minor.
      Other:
I don’t use the flip feature as I’m OK with its footprint and as I said earlier, it looks good sitting on the counter. But the flip feature does work well and if you are interested in this feature it seems worthwhile.
I have been pulling the oven out when I use it to keep the cord away from the oven and giving it more space to ventilate. I have a plastic can opener mounted above where I use the oven. Even after a 450 degree cooking the can opener is warm to the touch but does not get too hot. The sides of the oven don’t get overly hot (but the glass does). This seems well built and I probably don’t need to pull it out but will continue to do so.
I don’t think I will ever have a reason to use my regular oven again. This oven is big enough (for my cooking needs) and this oven pre-heats so much faster than my big oven, cooks more evenly and is more convenient. I am going to give my big oven a good cleaning and know it will stay clean as I probably won’t use it again.

This oven is a good air fryer and I am impressed with the results, but I have never had an air fryer before. All the other functions seem really good. The wire rack and sheet pan are sturdy but I wish the sheet pan could support itself using the rails like how the air fry basket does. The air fry basket is flexible but still sturdy and mine had a minor defect. The crumb try is fine. I really like the added casserole tray. I would highly recommend this product unless you need or want the extra height of the Cuisinart TOA60. The Cuisinart, after reading reviews, was my first pick but after looking at the overall footprint, I decided against it. I am happy with the size and performance of the Ninja SP101.
I will update this only if I have some issue with the oven.

This was an upgrade from our old air fryer that didn’t hold a lot of food. Before, our air fryer would have a basket that would become scraped when cleaning with any abrasive material. (I know must appliances warn you not to, but how else would you clean it?) I’d worry that it would affect our food. With the Ninja, the pans are easy to clean with a Scrub Daddy. Just be sure to not let it sit in water long after use, and clean while it’s fairly hot, otherwise the pan loses some color. This issue maybe be user error 🙂 …. The Ninja is a lot faster, has several functions ( including toasting for bread that lets you select the darkness level), holds a good amount of food, and saves space with the flip up function. I also enjoy how the color matches the other amenities in our kitchen like our microwave and oven, so it fits in perfectly. When we moved to our new apartment, I wanted to get rid of our old (faithful) toaster oven and the air fryer that took up a lot of space, and find a 2-in-1 that would function the way we needed. The Ninja was a great option!

The only thing I don’t like about this item is that it’s very limiting when you want to cook two foods at once. When using the top rack, whatever food you cook must be flat. One time I wanted to make broccoli with my chicken wings, and the broccoli prevented me from inserting the top rack due to their height. If it were fries, cool, but items that sticks up slightly makes it harder to cook family sized meals. Other than that, great product!

    9. Ryan Palmer

I am currently on day 2 of owning this thing so, really, consider this a first impressions review.

Firstly, the main draw: The flip-up feature. This really is a game changer and was chief amongst my reasons to buy this particular oven. I am happy to report that this feature works very well and gains me back a good amount of countertop space. It fits like a GLOVE flipped away under my wall cabinets. If you have low hanging wall cabinets, however, you’d do well to take a measure before purchasing to ensure you have access to this feature. This is what sets it apart from other products IMO.

Secondly: The power cord. Its bad. Specifically, when plugged in, the power cord extends straight out from the wall and I think the manufacturer absolutely, positively should have opted for a low profile plug-in, especially since this is designed to flip-up to stow away. This is a serious negative as you’re not able to place this in front of the power socket its plugged into without the front of the oven protruding past the countertop and nearly falling off. If you have a very small kitchen, take a moment to be sure you’ll have adequate room.

Finally, the real test: Cooking. So far, I have only reheated refrigerated pizza and air-fried some cheese sticks. To that end, this thing is a beast. The controls were easy enough to figure out without needing the manual. It has a great pre-heat feature which only starts running the timer after it gets to temperature, which is FAST. When set to 450F, pre-heating was less than 2 minutes. I was impressed. The food came out exactly as I hoped. They aren’t kidding though, watch your food carefully when you first get it. Use the light. It can quickly burn your food if you’re not familiar with convection and don’t understand the lower cook times.

My only other negative is theoretical: Cleaning. I don’t think it will be TOO difficult, as the bottom tray is easy to lift out, but if you DON’T clean regularly I can easily see crumbs and debris piling up in the back when the oven is flipped up. I think the solution is probably just being proactive with cleaning it. For the lazy, maybe avoid this one.

Overall impressions are very very good and, at the time I’m writing this, I’m not mad at the $170 sale price either. Go, Ninja, Go.

    10. Stacy

If you have the counter space (as I did) The flip aspect of this Ninja air fryer is amazing. Easy to operate and cooks the food very well.
