    10 reviews for Keurig® K-Duo Plus™ Single Serve & Carafe Coffee Maker

    1. Michael Neiswender

Follow up to my original review. After 10 months this machine has exceeded my expectations. This may be the best coffee maker I have ever owned.

I bought this machine July 12 for $140. I owned a 10 cup Mr Coffee machine that had similar functions and features (except the K-cup capability) that I was very happy with. It was about 10 years old when it started leaking water from the reservoir which prompted me to replace it. The only issue I had with the old machine was capacity. On those occasions when my wife and I wanted an additional cup of coffee it was inconvenient to brew another half-pot or full pot that often didn’t get fully used. This Keurig Duo seemed to be the perfect replacement. It features a 12 cup pot and has the K-cup feature for additional cups if needed.
After reading several reviews on Amazon I identified 3 items that were a concern to me. 1. The permanent filter lets fines into the carafe. 2. The carafe doesn’t keep the coffee hot enough, long enough. 3. Longevity, a few reviews noted breakdowns after a few months. I have only owned this machine for about 2 weeks so I don’t have enough history to speak to the longevity issue. However, I can say that my first two concerns have been non-issues for me. The permanent filter DOES let fine coffee grounds through into the carafe. This problem is easily solved by using paper Bunn Coffee Filters BCF100 in place of the permanent filter. This works so well that in my opinion it renders the permanent filter a detractor rather than a benefit. The filter basket holder is easily removed and you can dump the filter and grounds out cleanly. Conversely the permanent filter has to be removed, cleaned and put back. In my estimation this is far more inconvenient. As far as temperature is concerned I find the Keurig carafe is probably less insulated than my old machine in that it seems to cool off faster. This is also not an issue for me. My perfect drinking temperature is somewhere around 145 degrees. The temperature of the coffee from the Keurig is 170 degrees right after brewing and is 168 at 30 minutes and 161 after 1 hour. The coffee pot is usually empty before the two hour mark in our home. So far the temperature has not been an issue for us. Other miscellaneous notes are: brew time for a full carafe is 9 minutes and 30 seconds; very reasonable. The auto delay brew function works well but is a little counterintuitive. I have to turn the machine on, push the auto button, and press the start button to “set” the delay function, then press the power button again OR it will brew a pot of coffee immediately. Counter space footprint is ideal for us. Registration of the product was slightly inconvenient because the Keurig registration system didn’t recognize the serial number at first. I tried again after a few days and it worked fine so not really a significant issue.

Overall – after 2 weeks of ownership I am very satisfied with this product and would recommend it highly. If it doesn’t last for at least 5 years at the current price point however, I would not buy it again. Time will tell.

I originally bought this machine because I was fed up with the maybe 6 month old competitors coffee pot of the same price. I bet it has come up in conversation with my husband at least 3 times a week since it arrived! 😃 No really. Heres some highlights:
      ● It’s not necessary to pour water into the top. I have elbow/shoulder issues. This is a lifesaver.
      ● Thermal Energy – once it’s done brewing, there is no need for it to continue use power. The carafe is Thermal and keep coffee hot for hours.
      ● Since it doesn’t continue to “cook” no bitter taste! Yay!
      ● Usability. Omigosh. I can’t even stand how easy peasy it is!
Ok, so I basically paid double, but so well worth it! The competitors $200 coffee pot? Taken from the alley with a free sign. I was disgusted :/

The stainless steel carafe keeps coffee hot most of the day without any scorching because there is no hot plate. It is important to know that the K-Cups brew through the same area that the whole pot grounds are held. My husband was making cups of coffee which were running through the basket of coffee grounds unbeknownst to him. He was complaining that it didn’t taste good and that he was only getting a 10 oz cup until he learned to remove the coffee grounds basket before brewing a single cup. Once he got that figured out we absolutely love love love this coffee pot. The water pitcher has a handle which makes it super easy to refill. We have ours in the back so that it takes a narrow strip of counter. The water reservoir is about the same size as the carafe, so it has to be full to make a full pot of coffee. That said, it’s a big pot of coffee, plenty for two coffee junkies to share, and then some. We also love the ability to make a single cup as it does take time to brew that big pot. Worth every single penny!

The two of us aren’t big coffee drinkers, I tended to buy Starbucks Frappiccinos in the little glass bottles and go through about 4 a week. My spouse drank instant and went through less than a jar a month. She mentioned thinking about getting a Keurig and I did some research. I selected this one for all the right reasons – you can set the water container on any of the three sides, the container is large, easily removed and easily refilled. (I used the filtered water from the fridge door – you have to angle the container a little but you can fill it over 90%.) This one has the “strong” option and will send water through more slowly (takes like a minute more) to increase the flavor. Also I thought that in case we didn’t like using the cups, we could use this as a “regular” coffee maker. And this one allows for tall enough travel mugs for our purposes. The extra cost over other versions also paid off in quality of construction, as this one is much better than ones I’ve seen out and about.

I am absolutely thrilled with the Keurig® K-Duo Plus™ Single Serve & Carafe coffee maker! This versatile machine has revolutionized my morning coffee routine and has become an indispensable part of my kitchen.

The dual-functionality of the K-Duo Plus is a game-changer. Whether I’m in the mood for a quick cup of coffee to kickstart my day or brewing a full carafe for weekend gatherings, this coffee maker delivers every time. It’s like having two coffee machines in one, saving both space and time in my kitchen.

The single-serve option is perfect for those busy mornings when I need my coffee fix in a flash. The process is incredibly easy; just pop in a K-Cup® pod of my favorite flavor, and within moments, I have a hot and delicious cup of coffee ready to go. The coffee tastes rich and flavorful, just the way I like it.

On the other hand, the carafe option is a true blessing when I have guests or need a large volume of coffee. The convenience of brewing up to 12 cups at once is fantastic, and the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot for hours without sacrificing its flavor.

The control panel is user-friendly and intuitive, allowing me to customize the brew strength and size according to my preferences. The adjustable drip tray is a thoughtful addition, accommodating various cup sizes, including travel mugs, without any mess.

Cleaning the K-Duo Plus is a breeze, thanks to the removable water reservoir and drip tray. The machine also includes a helpful descaling reminder, ensuring that it maintains peak performance over time.

I can’t praise the K-Duo Plus enough for its consistent and reliable performance. The quality of the coffee it produces, combined with its versatility and user-friendly design, makes it worth every penny.

In conclusion, the Keurig® K-Duo Plus™ Single Serve & Carafe coffee maker is a 5-star delight that has truly enhanced my coffee-drinking experience. Whether it’s a quick cup on busy mornings or a carafe for gatherings, this machine delivers exceptional results every time. If you’re a coffee enthusiast like me, I highly recommend adding this fantastic coffee maker to your kitchen. It’s the ultimate coffee companion that won’t disappoint!

Mostly, it’s what you’d expect. I’ve used the same pod brand across multiple Keurig machines. This one is not my favorite for the cup brew.

The insulated pot is great. Easy to wash. Doesn’t leak or drip around my cup like the Cuisinart brand insulated pots seem to do. I’m not sure I’m crazy about the deep tube lid. Well see how cleaning goes over time.

My biggest complaint is the splatter when making pods. It splatters a lot. The images are today’s splatter. It’s best if I put a large can of chicken under the cup to hold it closer to the mess maker. I think they could do better.

When I called Keurig regarding a machine I had about 6 years+ ago, there were no replacement parts available. It was a big disappointment but what they did instead, was send a brand new machine which really shocked me. I was really surprised they made this offer just because my Keurig couldn’t be fixed. What company does this these days? I’ve had that coffee maker which we use everyday, and it was wonderful. The features were simple and easy to follow, and based on the layout of my countertop, I could place the water receptacle on either side of my machine. Recently this coffee maker stopped working after we got hit with a storm that took out our power for over 24 hours. Unfortunately, it was still plugged in when the power came on and I think there was a surge that knocked the computer component out. I liked the machine so much, It didn’t bother me to pay this time for another new one. I got the exact same model. We were thankful for Keurig offering that to us back then and feel it needed to be paid forward. Enjoy everything about the machine and since I’m a die-hard believer in Keurig based on their quality products, we bought this one. Thank you Keurig for giving customer care a great name. Thank you for your kindness and I’m hoping this review will help you even more! It’s nice to support a company that supports its customers.

I have a different model Keurig Duo at work with a glass carafe, which leaks when poured at least 50% of the time. It defies science.

THIS MODEL, however, not only has a carafe that doesn’t spill, but it keeps the brewed coffee hot for a solid 12+ hours. I can’t believe it. It takes up less space by using the same brew output for the carafe as the cups, doesn’t heat the carafe from below using electricity the whole time, and still keeps the coffee hot. THIS Duo is THE ONE! Sorry, that pun was totally intended. Don’t buy the glass carafe model!

After getting tired of dealing with a dribbling carafe lid on our last two Mr. Coffee makers and our bulk coffee starting to get thin in flavor, we opted for this much more expensive Dual Keurig maker and a new brand of coffee. Our coffee intake had decreased from 6-8 cups per day to one for my wife and three for me. The plan for the new Keurig was for her to use K-cups and I’d brew enough in the carafe for my wants.

Other than having to trial & error various K-cups coffees to find a flavor we liked – difficult at best because most were pretty strong/bitter compared to our ‘usual’ – the Keurig worked as advertised, making a tasty cup for her and me – once I got used to the bolder, but very smooth Peet’s brand. I’m still working on that.

Why Keurig? There are other brands at AMZ that have the same dual function and are highly rated, but a few friends & relatives have Keurigs and offer few negatives about them. Unfortunately, I do.

If you’re a neatnik and don’t like having a messy coffee maker greeting you in the morning, this Keurig unit requires extra effort to clean. It’s not just a case of rinsing the K-cup holder and filter basket. To do the job reasonably well, the thing must be disassembled (see photo), all of the component’s nooks & crannies gotten into with a soapy brush, rinsed, towel-dried (I don’t like water spots, so don’t air dry) and reassembled. That’s about a 5-minutes job for me. Since my breakfast only consists of toast & coffee, it’s annoying to spend more time cleaning up than eating. Since it’s just me and my wife, we rarely dirty enough dishes to use the dish washer more than once or twice/week, so handwashing is our only option.

Although a different review should probably be posted, I included the two “load-your-own” K-cup holders in the photo to add the comment it’s important to NOT overfill them with grounds. I also use a K-cup, paper filter with them. Too many grounds will result in a loose seal on the lid, allowing the grounds to overflow into the hard-to-reach areas where the K-cup basket and trough sit that lets coffee flow from the K-cup to the hole in the filter basket holder and into your cup. I noticed that today and spent an extra 10 minutes cleaning out the mess.

I infrequently join my wife in a flavored K-cup (Chai Latte) and have found the machine will spit and sputter out around the bottom of the filter basket holder, adding to clean-up chores of the resulting splatter. We remove the filter basket before using K-cups – one more thing to clean up – and keep the stainless-steel carafe away from the unit or it will catch splatter too.

What do I like about this unit? As mentioned, it makes a tasty cup of coffee, once you find a brand you like. We’re probably over-filtered – whole house filter, water softener, fridge filter (for coffee water) and a filter in the unit’s water-source-reservoir. It’s fast – press the power button and the water begins to heat, easily making a K-cup in less than a minute. The K-cups, although 3 times more expensive than bulk coffee, are very convenient for only one or two cups. Being able to change position of the water reservoir allows an easy way to figure out the orientation of the unit on the counter. The stainless-steel carafe keeps coffee hot enough for me. I’ll take about 45 minutes to drink three cups while tending to email, reviewing the calendar, and having toast. The third cup is not quite as hot as the first one but is still too hot to drink fast.

I bought this as a late Christmas gift to myself. My last two Mr. Coffee drip machines cost about $65 each, but the poorly designed, dribbling carafe lids were a nuisance and I’d hoped this Keurig would eliminate that problem. I think I’ve moved from the frying pan into the fire re cleanup. I wonder if other styles of Keurig makers require so much cleanup between use?

The price constantly fluctuates on this item. But here are the pros and cons.
      Pros:
-able to make a pot of coffee or single serve and comes with a stainless steel carafe
      – can use a pod or basket dispenser
-water reservoir is removable and can be placed on either side or even at the back for space saving!!
-has “choose a size” option for 6, 8, 10, 12 ounce cup or strength
      -has “strong” option
-has “auto” option to set to brew carafe up to 24 hours in advance
-carafe keeps coffee lukewarm for about an hour
      – tall enough that a travel mug fits beneath the drip spout for on the go coffee

      Cons:
-no warmer to keep coffee in carafe warm
      -no descaling button
-no way to froth, make latte, cappuccino, etc if you are looking for those features
-price seems a bit steep for the lack of functions
-when using the carafe, coffee spews out, missing the pot.. a lot

Bottom line- I wanted a dual machine and that is what it does. The current price at the time of this review is up to $199. For $189, the Keurig Single Serve K-Cup Coffee, Latte and Cappuccino Maker could be purchased, but it does NOT have a carafe. So, depending on your needs and budget, do some research.
