I bought this for my wife as a Mother’s Day present because she has a habit of going to the local coffee shop for her lattes and cappacino and I thought this would save us money if we could do it easily at home. After a couple of months we’re down about $75 because this is just TOO easy and too GOOD. With a wide variety of capsules (my wife likes to make things half-caf) and a great quick frother included we no longer have to go to the local Caribou nor do we any longer have to sleep at night 😉
Unfortunately, our more economical Cuisinart programmable coffee maker, which makes very good ‘regular’ coffee can’t complete.
Fortunately, I bought a Wahl hair clipper set at the start of the pandemic and have been cutting my own (sparsely populated) hair ever since at an infinite return on investment – enough to pay for the Nespresso! It all evens out.

I ordered this for my birthday. I finally received it a couple of days ago and was planning on waiting a week before I wrote a review. However. It didn’t take long to figure out how to use it and I have to say the resulting coffee is DELICIOUS.

I have had a regular coffee percolator, 3 Keurigs, an old Corelle ceramic percolator with steel basket, and finally a Ninja Coffee Bar. I did not like the way coffee made with the Keurig tasted plus you were stuck with either weak coffee or using two pods. One size does NOT fit all. Then we got the do-it-yourself pod refills but by then I was done with the Keurig. Not to mention the mess made with refilling the pods.

The Corelle made GREAT coffee but when you only drink one or two mugs a day you wind up having to reheat in the microwave. Then it doesn’t taste the same as fresh brewed.

When I got the Coffee Bar I thought my problems were solved. It’s a WONderful coffee maker allowing you to fresh brew one cup, or a mug, or a travel mug, or half a pot, or a full pot. It also allows you to make faux lattes and has a whip on the side for frothing hot milk. Oh and you can brew up iced coffee as well. But it just wasn’t what I wanted as far as flavor. I tried several types of coffee. And here I need to add a disclaimer … I only drink decaf. And before someone jumps in and says that’s my problem … the lattes I get at Starbucks have PLENTY of flavor. But making them at home with Starbucks decaf just wasn’t the same.

      Enter the Nespresso.

Oh and I also picked up the lovely glass topped drawer to hold the vertuo pods. That arrived days before the machine thanks to weather in SLC. Anyway I was concerned the machine wouldn’t fit under my cabinets once it was on top because of the measurements given in the description. Well the height measurement, just so you know, is done with the top part fully opened. It fits just fine.

So on to the first cup (and yes, I did order a three pack of the decaf offerings). I had read in other reviews that it doesn’t produce a very hot cup of coffee. So I made sure to turn the machine on and leave it on for 9 minutes (that’s the automatic shut off timer) and then brewed my first cup. Tepid. After I dumped in a bunch of cream. Off to the microwave.

Second time I ran it for 18 minutes and used the aeroccino. Um. Not a good idea to use the spring attachment on the whip and the top max line for milk. It REALLY whips up the froth. Since I turned off the aeroccino too soon THAT cup wasn’t hot enough. Back to the microwave.

This morning I used the Intenso pod and I knew it only brewed 40 ml but I still was “Where’s the rest of the coffee???” once it stopped brewing. OK OK … whip the milk. This time I took out the spring and filled to the max line (use whole milk … mmmmm). Not much froth on top but HOT milk and HOT coffee. No need for the microwave. and may I just say — DEEElicious!

Sorry Ninja. You are destined for the pantry to only come out when company is here.

Do I recommend this machine? Absolutely. Yes the coffee is expensive but I only drink one or two mugs a day. I am, however, going to have to beg Nespresso to make an Alto pod in the decaf. Other than that, this baby gets 5 stars across the board.

So it is a single serve machine (make sure you get a Vertuo if you want full cups of coffee), and yes it uses pods. So it’s like a Keurig, but that’s where the similarities end. The Keurig makes a decent cup of coffee for the price, the K-Cups can be had for 40 cents a pop, give or take. Again, the coffee is decent. But my old Keurig was not getting as hot any more, and the pump was getting weak. It had a good long life, so no complaints there. I kept reading about Nespresso, and found it interesting. So I took the plunge. Yes the pods are more expensive, but I knew that going in…..
The machine is very simplistic, a water tank, an empty pod collection tank and an on/off button. You can simply put in a pod of the desired beverage, hit the start button and that’s all. The pods are created for different beverages, and sizes. I am a coffee drinker so the 7.7 oz pods work for me, but I like a little more coffee in my mug. So, for the certain pod size, one can customize it to brew a little more than that 7.7 oz size, and it will remember the customization the next time you use that size pod. It’s in the instruction manual. So there is some customization there. They also make a 14 oz Alto pod too. Will be trying that once my pod shipment comes. It doesn’t have a clock on it or a tocuhscreen and all of that. It’s simple and looks good in the kitchen, and smaller than the Keurig, so less space taken. I will add though, I cannot fit any of my standard travel mugs under the unit, so I cannot directly brew into them, so one drawback. Other machine designs from DeLonghi or Breville may allow for them, check the specs before ordering if that is a big deal for you.

The coffee. It’s really good. I preheat a little half and half and then brew the coffee. It does have what they like to refer to as a “crema” head on the brewed coffee. It does add a little extra to the experience. It is a fuller flavor than a Keurig. Don’t let the whole crema, finished coffee color fool you, it’s got some body and full flavor. It doesn’t look like a normal black cup of coffee. Again, it is good coffee. Some have mentioned it is not as hot as a Keurig, or traditional drip maker. I agree, but it’s not warm or cold or anything. I’m not one to want to wait a long time for my coffee to cool down. It is a very hot, drinkable temperature. I’ll try an instant read thermometer on it. But if you want scalding hot coffee that you need to dump a ton of milk in it too cool down, then this won’t be for you. Oh yeah, and it’s good coffee. 😉

Time will tell if I grow to love this, I’m still in the honeymoon phase. And I’ll try some different pods and see how they all go. I need a machine for work too now!

***Update. Maybe I was unlucky or what but ordering pods from Nespresso direct is slow as….I ordered on 12-3 and got a shipping notice that product has shipped. Now it won’t arrive until 12-23. That’s not efficient. They person I spoke to the other day said my order was going to deliver on 12-16….they need to get their act together. I’ll report back if the next shipment does better or worse.

Giving it five stars because I see the potential.

Right now I am drinking a 5 ounce Pike’s Place with foamed milk and a teaspoon of sugar – all in a 12 ounce cup. It is pretty good and very easy to brew. Needs to improve a bit and I think I will get there.

I am a complete newbie. Made up words for some coffee flavors are confusing. Knowing that Virtuo only uses large capsules was not apparent – although it was explained in the documentation. Wished it showed more obviously. I ended up getting both an Original and a Virtuo. I could have returned either but I decided I wanted the espresso only machine because… just because… and the Virtuo (large pod) for making my morning cup of Joe.

I started by using Pikes Place coffee (still using up the 10 I bought) and find it bitter. It has to have at least a teaspoon sugar to make it suitable for me. Looking forward to finding a less abrasive blend for this machine. The descriptions of the blends are almost meaningless when converting to how they will taste. There will be a hidden expense to this venture in finding out which blends I like the best. I have already ordered $100 worth of different pods. I am committed to getting this right.

Frother clean up is easy and doesn’t have to be done the second after you make it (this was what was mentioned by another user in comments). Frother is amazing and I love it.

This is an amazingly designed and easy to use machine. I’m not sure what took me so long to buy it, but I sure am glad that I did. Not only is the machine very good, but the coffee that it comes with is excellent. Make sure you get the coffee pods for the newer version rather than the original version. I made that mistake and the original coffee pods do not fit inside the newer version coffee maker. otherwise I think it’s wonderful

I am a novice when it comes to preparing my own coffees/espresso, so maybe I’m easy to win over here, but dang am I impressed with this machine! I bought this for my SO for his birthday last month and we both absolutely LOVE it! I spent A LOT of time reading reviews on different machines before deciding on this one and I am thrilled with my purchase. One repeated item of feedback I read was that the coffee was not hot enough, but I have yet to feel like the temperature was not adequate. I don’t know if people want their mouth burned or if maybe they are pouring in cold water, but fortunately, room temperature filtered water is serving us well.

This is almost too easy to use….You twist the top, pop in a capsule, push the button and boom – delicious, strong cup of coffee every time! I am amused by the mechanism that removes the capsule also. When you open it up, a little spring tosses it into a container for the used capsules. If you go on Nespresso’s website, you can order prepaid postage bags where you can send the capsules to be RECYCLED! I absolutely love this. We got rid of our Kuerig because we couldn’t stand the amount of waste we were creating, so this is a HUGE selling feature for us.

The capsules are fairly expensive in comparison to brewing a traditional cup of coffee or when using beans, averaging about $1 per cup of coffee. For me, the cost is well justified because of the ease and cleanliness….there is zero mess. No grinding beans, no grounds spilled about or having to clean out the machine between uses. I imagine that if you are drinking several cups a day, this may not be the most cost effective or correct purchase for you. Or, you can simply use it to compliment a traditional coffee pot.

This bundle included the Aeroccino, which I didn’t really care about when ordering, but I am SO happy we have it now. I have used manual pumps previously to create cappuccinos and this is so much easier and better. I put almond milk in here with a splash of syrup/creamer and it whips a perfect cream every time. It is extremely quiet also, which was a pleasant surprise.

Some comments I read suggested the Nespresso was very loud, but I really don’t find it to be so loud that I would count it as a negative. The are a few seconds where it makes a fair amount of noise, but it is brief. If you are standing right next to it, I can see it being perceived as a bot noisy, but not so much that it would disturb you in another room. Basically, what I’m getting at, is if you are concerned this will wake someone else in the house up – I wouldn’t worry. If you are living in a small, open studio – yeah, maybe it’s a factor.

Long story short, I couldn’t be more pleased with my purchase and would definitely recommend buying this machine. And try the stormio capsules – our fave so far!

I was hesitant for awhile to get this but ended up really enjoying it. Very easy to use and I love the milk frother that comes with it. My only complaint is that you cannot fit very much in the milk frothed without it spilling over the top

My son and daughter in law have a Nespresso and I was so pleasantly surprised at how tasty their coffee was, I just had to have a machine for myself at my home.
I ordered it and it arrived on 6/24/2024. Description said it came with a milk frother and pods but neither were not in the box. Box was not sealed and looked like it had been tampered with. I returned the item the same day and I got my money back. Same day I purchased the one that had the frother, spent a little more money. I received the package today 6/28/2024 and it was very well packed. All the items as advertised were in the box (coffee pods, frother and the Nespresso machine). I made my husband a cup and one for myself, and wow, this is the best coffee I’ve ever tasted! This was definitely worth the money. We’ve had a small version of a Starbucks espresso machine for many years, we’ve gone through 3 Keurig makers all to which seem to have watered down coffee. We love the one cup at a time concept so you don’t waste coffee. This was worth every penny!
