I’m not a normal coffee consumer, I own a traditional, money-pit espresso machine by La Marzocco. It makes INCREDIBLE coffee, but it also takes an equal amount of skill to use. In terms of convenience, it ranks very low on the scale.

The Vertuo Next is very much a different kind of compromise. It trades away other things, in favor of convenience. It makes decent coffee, in a very convenient package and a very convenient process.

      Pros:
      1. Extremely convenient pod system (and seemingly recyclable).
      2. Decent quality coffee output. As good as other machines of this type.
      3. Well-built machine (at least initial quality).

      Cons:
      1. Complex machines such as this tend to have many points of failure over time, consider a warranty package.
      2. Locked ecosystems can be expensive on a per cup basis compared to BYO-beans.

Overall, convenience is great as well as initial build quality. I think most people would be made happy.

I could not believe the rich flavor that I have been missing all my life. The coffee flavor is unbelievable. I have not started experimenting with the espresso drinks yet. I am just enjoying the coffees so far. I know I have a lot of learning to do so I can use Nespresso Vertuo Next Coffee and Espresso Maker to its full capability. It is the perfect size for my coffee bar. It is very narrow but perfectly designed. The used pods are automatically ejected to a storage bin. You can discard them several at a time as you need to. The top securely lock during the brewing process. The water reservoir is a good size. A cup of coffee pod uses 7.5 oz of water. The other pods use specific amounts of water but that is read automatically by the Vertuo Next. All you have to do is put in the pod and let the machine make the perfect drink. Again I simply can not believe the flavors I have cheated myself out of all these years.

This is a great Nespresso espresso machine. I love the variety of pods that can be used and the machine automatically brews the correct size. Simply fill with water, insert the pod and press brew. You can buy kits to refill pods, or Nespresso offers a recycling program.

The brew is great and lots of varieties of pods. I picked up some espresso cups to go with it. Much nicer to drink out of a properly sized cup instead of drinking out of a full coffee mug.

The machine makes some noise during be cycle, but nothing out of ordinary for being espresso and it is well made so a good value. No water leakage or off smells from the machine.

It has internet connectivity and an App, which I am not sure is truly necessary. It is a simple machine with one button. I suppose they mostly want to collect data. You can turn wifi off, which is why I didn’t rate it down due to this.

      Love it but pretty noisy

First, my sister has a Nespresso machine and I’ve always wanted one. The taste compared to a Keurig for example is exceptional in my book. The coffee pods will cost more than Keurig but still much cheaper than a cup at Starbucks. I like that this version is somewhat streamlined compared to some other versions and I find the color appealing. The only thing I dislike about this model is that the lever to open and close the area where you put the pod is very hard to maneuver. I had two people ask me how to use it because they were afraid they were going to break it using the lever but it actually just takes a hard push/pull. It should be easier. Separately, note that it will not alert you if you do not have enough water in the tank. It will just make a partial cup until you fill it then continue after you add water. This is unlike a Keurig that won’t make a cup until you add enough water.

The Nesspresso came out of the box needing a rinse as it was covered in packaging dust. Other than that it was ready to start making easy, delicious coffee drinks.

The water reservoir is easy to hold on to to, fill, and place back onto the machine. The lock lever was easy enough to turn. The pods fit in easily. The machine has an adjustable cup height. (I had bought short cups for my last expresso maker because my regular cups would not fit.) The pods eject into a removable container. Everything about this Nesspresso is easy and convenient except buying the pods.

It came with 12 pods. I prefer double expresso that I use for cappuccino. It came with two. That lasts me one day. I used the other pods quickly then went to order coffee. I was disappointed in the limited selection. You must buy the pods from Nesspresso because they are barcoded to customize the machine settings. Now I must decide whether to give up my favorite Pete’s Aged Sumatra that I’ve been drinking for years or give up the convenience of Nesspresso! There are no refillable pods for Nesspresso. I went online to order more pods and the website wouldn’t take the discount code. I called in. It took 15 minutes to make my coffee order. I live near Washington, DC and there is no Nesspresso store here, so I can only get the coffee pods via mail/UPS. Then to recycle these (tops are plastic and foil so they don’t recycle) Nesspresso can include a bag in your order with pre-paid UPS delivery back to them.

I really like this machine, perfect for when you are on the go. Easy to assemble and use.

I really liked my old coffee maker, it was convenient and fast to make my morning coffee. But, WOW! This Nespresso Vertuo Next makes a much better coffee! The coffee is much more flavorful. I never knew my coffee was that weak, no matter what brand of coffee I used in my old machine. And more amazing, the coffee I have made in this Nespresso isn’t as acidic and bitter. I really love the foam it creates, I think that helps with the flavor profile, makes the coffee more fun to drink too. This coffee maker makes me feel fancy, like I’m getting one of those high dollar coffees from a coffee shop, but better. It is so much easier to make my quart jar of iced coffee in the morning. Really, it is tall enough to put a quart jar under the spout! Or use the handy dandy cup holder in the adjustable height slots to use regular coffee cups in. And, it is actually faster and less messy than my Keurig was. I really liked that there is a large sampling of the different styles of coffee offered for this machine, it gives me an opportunity to pick out the ones I like best and order in the future. I am getting a kit to make my own pods also and am looking forward to trying that out. This machine even has a rinse cycle and is easy to descale it. I really like the handy dandy recycle bay, the old pod is flipped into it when I lift the lid to put another pod in the machine. Fast, convenient and great coffee! It’s one good looking coffee machine too. Absolutely worth it!

I’ve only used a Nespresso once or twice before. I currently use a Moka pot, but use to use a Kurig. I do like the quality of the drink that this makes. The taste is well above the Kurig and its pods, and you even get a nice crema head on the espresso. I got this to leave at my parents when I visit, because I need my morning coffee, and hate the options available to me there.

Downsides: the instructions are confusing. I immediately was getting an error code my first time using it. Trying to figure that out first thing in the morning, without any caffeine, in my system was stressful. The codes are based on color and how many continuous blinks. When I found what I thought was the issue, it would just give a brief description, with no info on how to fix it. I tried putting it in cleaning mode to see if that would clear it. The instructions give no indication on what that exactly means. Turns out, it cycles through your whole water tank. I ended up with water everywhere.

When I finally got it to brew, my coffee cup was wider than the classic coffee cup design, so it didn’t fit on the base exactly. This led to coffee spilling on the counter. I need to get new coffee cups, to fix this. Normally, machines have based to fit a variety of sizes.

Lastly, I didn’t realize how expensive the pods were, (this is a fancier and high quality product though) and that I could only buy them online. It did come with a sample kit, which I really did like. Since I’m new to this system, I had no idea the variety of pods available, and this was a great way to learn. Ex. There’s even a pod for making a fancy flavored milk, in the sample kit. I’m so glad that kit was included, so now I know what pods to look out for, and make my purchase easier.

Makes a strong cup quickly with smooth taste. I normally do a pour over with my Hario Switch, but for my family and myself in a pinch, this will make coffee in about a minute. Noise is not bad and it heats up quickly. I really appreciate that it comes with a sampler pack!
