Very easy to set and use, it has small cup, 6, 8, and 10 oz cups. small water container, but for the price. I stopped buying Keurig, they last for a year or two, then you have to buy a new one.

I misinterpreted the marketing on the Amazon page for the Cuisinart SS-5P1 40 oz. coffeemaker. There is a section titled “What’s in the box”. It lists the coffeemaker, and right below it there is a section titled “From the manufacturer” which shows the coffee maker, the water filter, and the reusable filter cup. It looks like the two sections are related and that the items shown (the reusable filter cup and water filter) are included. The water filter is, the reusable filter cup is not. Turns out that the “From the manufacturer” section is not part of the “What’s in the box” and the small print says that the reusable filter cup is not included. I did not understand that until after the item arrived without the reusable filter cup. That was one of the reasons I selected this item. Now I have to order one. Don’t let the way the page is arranged fool you too.

Something else I don’t understand is the water filter. It sits up on plastic tabs which appears to allow the water to flow around it, so it looks to me like it is useless. I’ll have to post that as a question.

That aside I received my coffeemaker, set it up, and tried it out. It made a hot cup of coffee and did so quietly. Other than the above I believe I will be very pleased with this purchase. I previously owned two Keurig machines, and both of them only lasted for a short time after the warranty expired. I expect this system to last years (fingers crossed).

I’ve researched a number of different coffee makers before deciding to buy this Cuisinart. I previously had two Keurig‘s , the the first one lasted almost 10 years ….the second one, which I purchased in November 20022, , lasted maybe 15 months! I reached out to Keriug and they did nothing to help me since it was out of the12 month warranty. I am very pleased with the Cuisinart. It makes a nice strong , hot cup of coffee. I do recommend it.

I have other Cuisinart brand appliances, e.g. , a coffee grinder and a bread machine that work well and that is one reason I decided to try this coffee maker. I saw negative reviews and foolishly ignored them thinking those folks just had bad luck and I could probably repair any issue I came across after purchase. Well, I was wrong. THIS THING IS JUNK. First, the amount of water used is too much causing many overflows and spills depending on which size coffee cup used. Worst flaw is that on some pods (they are not all made the same) the top of the disposable pod would split or burst near the end of the brewing cycle and result in grounds in the coffee at best and grounds and liquid coffee spilled all over the counter top and inside the machine at worst. The unit is not made for easy cleaning either. If I just used it to make hot water for tea (in an extra large cup) and didn’t mind having to refill the tank every other cup I guess it would be okay. If you want a K-cup/pod coffee maker try something else. I almost never throw anything away but after trying several times to figure out how to work around its problems I’ve given up on this thing and it’s going in the trash. I’ll also be reluctant to buy another ‘Cuisinart’ appliance ever again because my experience with this one.
      Good luck!

I own and have owned other Cuisinart products and when my cheap Black and Decker single serve coffee maker died, I looked at this one. I liked the styling and especially the 3 year warranty.

Worked well for the first 3 months. Then the cleaning light sequence went on indicating the unit needed cleaning. Went through the cleaning process and the cleaning lights continued. Cleaned one more time and called Cuisinart when the light indicators did not go away.

Went through the process with the tech support person and since the unit was delivering the proper amount with each cup size selected, I was to disregard the lights and continue to use it, which I did.

After 1 year and 2 months use and cleaning on a regular basis, it started acting oddly, delivering 10 oz when selecting the 6 oz button. 3 oz when selecting the 10 oz button, etc. I figured it needed another cleaning. Cleaned the unit with no change. Cleaned again with no change.

Once again called Cuisinart, explained my problems and was told it was faulty. The rep had me cut the cord, send a picture of the unit along with my name and a problem call number. That was a week and a half ago and an email concerning the status has gone unanswered.

Aside from some of the goofy cleaning lights over the past year, it has made great coffee quickly and easily. I’m dealing my french press at the moment and miss the quick cup I can get with this maker.

I’m VERY disappointed in the snail-like pace with Cuisinart in replacing the unit. I always liked their products and hope this is an isolated incident.

I bought this over a similar Keurig because it is a machine that takes up less counter space. As opposed to my old Brewville, there are no real bells and whistles just the power and one of three cup sizes. I mad a cup and the coffee is good and hot It is fast and very quiet. I like the rear mounted reservoir which helps keep the width about 2 – 3" narrower than the equivalent Keurig. Like ALL machines with hot water on demand (no wait brewing) turn off when done. Leaving the machine on will keep water hot when you want it but will accelerate calcification. My expensive Brewville went into the dumpster because of this and it was no longer supported. So my advise is every 2 weeks, do a white vinegar flush and keep it off unless you are ready to use.

2 Years Later: Still working as it did when it was new. However, during the past 2 years I noticed a few little issues. Occasionally (not very often), the coffee maker would lock up and nothing works. It has to be allowed to site with the unit unplugged for about 1/2 hour to allow it to reset. The tank could be a bit larger since after brewing two cups, the reservoir is empty. It does not brew as fast as my previous brewer. It could use one more size option aside from 7,10 & 12 oz. Otherwise if you are not a heavy duty user, this is ideal. If you entertain, get this coffee makers bigger brother.

3 years later, still going strong. I use various brands of K Cups and never had one that wouldn’t brew in this machine. (6?29/2020)

      See update at end.

I’ve had this coffee maker (SS-5P1) for about a little over a month. I was very happy with it, although the water tank seems a bit small. Anyway, when I moved it to give it a good cleaning, I noticed the towel is was seating on was soaking wet. Once I removed the coffee maker and the towel I saw that the area was terrible wet and stained black (See picture). After close examination I discover that the seam between the water tank and coffee maker itself was very slowly leaking (See picture). I guess it has been leaky from day one.

I have registered a request from Cuisinart Customer Support for a new coffee maker or my money.. Will see what comes of it. If they response positively, I’ll add to my review and adjust the score.

I called their support number and got a very helpful and agreeable support rep. He understood my problem and immediately offer to replace the leaky water tank. If this fixes the problem, I will up the rating to 5 stars.

Did not realize this was refurbished, I saw some that were and thought I ordered a new one, the gasket that holds the water in leaked water all over the counter

    9. BB

Compact, brews extremely rapidly, great heating!

This is our second Cuisinart machine, we have a larger one. We purchased this one because we needed something smaller due to moving. Great machine overall. I do note that you need to push your pod down before closing the lid. We would get splitting and just a huge mess. Since we started doing this, no issues. Now this may only be my machine, but it doesn’t seem to get hot enough. That is my only issue, otherwise you get a nice cup of coffee without having to wait ten minutes for it to heat up.
