I bought this over a year ago to replace my stove top kettle for its temperature control and size. The button layout is easy to understand but the only minor issue I ran into is the lid. Sometimes the spring that compresses to release the lid doesn’t compress enough. It’s very minor as you can wiggle it open and once it’s open, you can press in the little tab that sticks out to unlock the lid with your finger. Compress it all the way with your finger and that should fix it.

Well I generally like this kettle, it has a lot of annoying beeping that cannot be turned off. (I even tried disassembling it based on tips I read elsewhere but it is not possible to access the part to turn off the beeping.) And worse, after a few months, the button that opens the lid stopped working. I was able to fix this by running hot water over the lid 5 minutes. Sharing this tip in case it helps others as I see this is a known issue.

This is an update on my Breville kettle, 3 years in. A few days ago the kettle suddenly stopped boiling water.
Some other reviewers mentioned this too and ended up ditching the kettle. I tried to fix it.
The base lit up as usual, and I tested it using another recent purchase a small 3 cup kettle with the same type of base–the base was working and it heated my back-up kettle. After reading the Breville instruction manual again, I spotted something I had never done–descale the kettle. I would look into it every now and then, it did have a slight grayish discoloration, which I thought was because of the heating element. That was actually lime scale, and it will eventually stop the kettle from working. I first used vinegar and a soft brush to try to get it off without much success but I could see the areas where I had brushed had cleared a bit. The instructions say to clean periodically with a descaling product or a vinegar and water mix, and boil. Since the kettle wasn’t functioning, boiling wasn’t going to happen, so I tried putting in 2/3 cup vinegar and then filling with BOILED water to the MINIMUM fill line. I let that stand overnight. The next morning I was surprised to see the kettle back to it’s new gleam on the inside, and happily, it is now back to boiling. I still love this kettle, and am keeping the 5 stars. The feature I love the most is the auto shut off and it boils quickly. As with everything, it pays to read and follow all the advice in the directions!

      Original Review:
I’m giving this kettle 5 stars because I t’s the best kettle I’ve ever had! I’ve been using it for several months now and it performs beautifully. I haven’t had any problems whatsoever. What another reviewer described as "rust" around the bottom of the inside is, I believe, some slight discoloration on the stainless steel as this is where the heating coil is located. I saw this too after the first time I used it, but it’s virtually disappeared. It certainly isn’t rust and doesn’t affect the use. I am also in the habit of not leaving water sitting in the pot, just dump it out when we’re done and leave the lid open to let it air dry. It does beep when the water boils and every time the pot is lifted off the warming plate. I don’t find this particularly loud or annoying. I especially like that one can choose the perfect temperature for whatever beverage is being made.

Let me start off by saying that we use our kettle a lot – upwards of half a dozen times daily for tea, coffee, and various cooking and cleaning applications.

I was tired of dealing with a standard kettle on a electric hob due to its inefficiency and having to deal with a hot top that takes forever to cool. After a lot of research on electric kettles, we settled on this one.

First the positives – it works, and works well. I love the temperature controls and the ability to turn on the kettle and walk away.

Why not 5 stars then? A couple of reasons –

      1. The choice of glass makes it almost impossible to see the fill level unless you have under counter lighting, and,
      2. The awful choice of beeper and the inability to turn it on/off. Pick up the kettle, it beeps. Put it down, it beeps. Turn it on, it beeps. Temperature reached, it beeps. You get the idea. The beep itself is a special pitch and frequency from hell. There are videos online showing you how to disable it should you go that route.

All in all, this has become a workhorse in our kitchen. Just be warned about the beeps.

My husband is not a coffee drinker but always used my keurig for heating water for tea. This works great for quickly heating a large cup of water and no worries of having any residual coffee flavor from using pods in the same machine. It heats very quickly. Great item!

We purchased as a gift for our child. The breville electric kettle has precise heat settings for a variety of teas. It is quick to heat up, has a musical tone when the temperature is reached and auto shut off. The water capacity is large and can make several cups of tea for the family to enjoy. The stainless steel is beautiful and easy to clean. Highly recommend.

Who knew different kinds of teas called for different water temps? I didn’t. I much enjoy this kettle although I wish it had an on off switch. When you put the kettle back on the base, it turns on and you have to press the button twice (once for heat and once for off) to shut it off.

Kettle itself seems to be good quality and works great. There is an obnoxious beep when you remove kettle from the base, place it back, hit any button, and when it finishes heating. I don’t want to be hearing that at 5 AM. There seems to be no way to turn it off besides following a youtube video to open it up physically disable it.

UPDATE: Followed the unbeeping procedure from youtube and I’m much happier.
