I’ve been using this frother most days to make a cappuccino with coffee brewed from my moka pot. After a bit of experimenting, I’ve found a few steps that can be taken to greatly improve the texture and overall result.

      1. Amount of milk (whole milk)
I usually pour enough milk to go up to the top of the black plastic (the plastic part of the actual frothing element).

      2. Microwave
After roughly measuring the milk, I pour it into my mug which will both warm the mug and warm the milk. I have found that, although the frother will heat the milk, doing so straight out of the fridge will either not warm it nearly enough, or leaving it to warm enough will froth it for too long. I typically microwave it for 40 seconds.

      3. Watch closely
As the frother operates, you will see the milk be pushed up the sides of the container and then fall back down. As the milk gets frothed, it will become lighter and retain more of its structure, not falling back down as quickly. As soon as you notice that the milk maintains a consistent level, remove it from the base and pour it into your coffee.

At least with this amount of milk, if you let the frother operate and shut off automatically, there will be a lot of very light foam at the top and pure liquid at the bottom, which isn’t exactly desirable.

This is not a good frother. It looks slick, but that’s about it.

Bad design, not easy to clean, and it breaks really easy.

Called their support, nobody answered, emailed, they answered several months later, asking me to send a video to prove that my claim of their machine being broken was true and fill out some lengthy form…

Luckily before that, amazon was able to cover for them by reimbursing me. Do not recommend. Will never buy another product from this company, they are poorly designed, unreliable, and terrible service. I got a Breville instead, and yes it’s a little more expensive, and is a little bulky and doesn’t look as slick, but honestly this wasn’t cheap either and having two of them break after just a few dozen uses is unacceptable, and the lack of service is even more unacceptable.
I’m very happy with my new one from another manufacturer, it works every time, I just put milk in it, press a button, wait a bit, and rinse it. No fiddling around with it to get it to start because it has faulty contacts or something.

Loved this frothier. I use the past tense because it blended my matcha latte and my kid’s hot chocolate perfectly. It was a luxury purchase because we only used it as when we wanted to indulge, about a maximum of 3-4x monthly (some months even less). Then 18months later it broke. The small piece fell off and now the entire machine is useless. I confirmed with the company. They asked for proof of purchase and my address, which I hoped meant they would send me a replacement, even just the cup replacement without the rubber sleeve, would have been greatly appreciated, but I have not received a response since. So while I would love to praise Bodum’s milk frothier as well as their customer svc, I don’t think you should waste your money on something that only lasts 18months with minimal usage. If customer service contacts me again and a resolution is reached beyond just throwing out their product, I will update.

After weeks of back and forth and waiting for a resolution, I finally received the correct replacement. The second replacement is the exact of the broken one so I am finally able to enjoy my matcha lattes. (The first replacement was a different, smaller, and less convenient model.) All in all the product works great, the detachable cup makes it easy to wash and I love the option of being able to take the frother mechanism off, if you prefer a less frothed drink. Should any go wrong with the product, it is nice to know that customer service is responsive, albeit it may take some patience for a complete response.

I’ve had this bodum milk frother for over 2 years now, and have used it once or twice every single day in that time. Obviously, I’m obsessed. I use it with Elmhurst Milked Almonds and it creates literal microfoam, which is amazing and exactly what I was looking for. (I have occasionally tried other alternative milks; none get quite the same effect as Elmhurst Milked Almonds.) The unit is easy to clean and small enough that it fits into the average cabinet. There have been a few instances where it would seem to stop working (a horrible “stuck” noise) — what I found is that if I just pour the milk out, take the metal frother out and put it back in ensuring it’s properly placed, and let it do a cycle with water, it all is better and runs like new afterwards. This has happened maybe 3-4 times per year for the last two years? Now having it for over two years with daily use, I am noticing that the motor seems to not be quite as strong as it once was — and I have to do less milk in it than I normally did. Which, is actually more user error than anything else, because I always put waayyyyyyy more than the “max” line and now I just have to keep it under/at the max line lol. Honestly I highly recommend, I take it with me everywhere, and I’m absolutely obsessed with the foam it creates. (I just remembered that it has different types of cycles — I only ever use the first one which I think is like the “latte” one.)

This does a great job – when it works

Initially, this frother, received less than three weeks ago did a great job of frothing milk for a morning matcha latté or bedtime hot chocolate/golden milk. Over the last few days, however, it has started making a grinding noise, and simply not spinning the milk around, so I assume the frothing disk isn’t functioning properly. If I shut it off, then on, sometimes a few times, all without touching the whisk, it may come back. At other times, I have to stick my hand or a chopstick in (with the machine off, of course), and give it a little nudge, and it will start working again. This is regardless of whether it’s milk or milk with additions which I’m trying to heat and froth, or heat and mix. This morning, it wouldn’t come on at all, even to make a grinding noise, until I’d unplugged it, and plugged it back in. When it works, it’s great, but this shouldn’t be happening at all, and the fact that it’s happening with increasing frequency is increasingly worrisome.

Thank you very much for reading my review. If you found it helpful, I hope you’ll let other people know that by clicking the button below.

The unit operates like many other frothers. Add liquid, turn on, wait, pour liquid/froth into container. This frother however does not reset it self. Once you toggle the switch on, that’s it, it stays operational. Yes, the unit stops heating/frothing once it reaches maximum temperature, however once it cools it will repeat the cycle and heat to maximum temperature again, and again, and again. You must toggle the unit off. Sure, I get it, flip the switch to off. Just saying this functionality differs from the many frothers that reset automatically once the process is complete. This unit is deceiving because when you start the process and toggle the unit on, the toggle lights up, turns red. Once the cycle is complete, the light goes out, yet the toggle remains in the on position. This means if you return the unit to its base, once it cools it will cycle again, even without any contents. This heating cycle continues until it is toggle off, yes it will run for hours.

My first Bodum after 5 years died. So I had to get a new one and THIS RIGHT HERE is the best, it looks pretty at the kitchen and has 3 function! Very important, EASY TO CLEAN!

I bought this primarily for heating and frothing milk. I’d rinse the whisk and leave it by the sink in the mornings. Well, the whisk is gone (probably a cat theft or accidentally thrown in trash). It’s impossible to get a replacement whisk. Without the whisk, the milk doesn’t fully heat and doesn’t mix with the chocolate powder I use to make hot chocolate.

So now I have a nice, unusable machine for no good reason. When it worked it was fine – it’s small, uncomplicated, and well-designed. A little noisy. But now completely useless for want of a $2 part. Bodum makes parts for its other machines, but this one can’t be had.

Don’t waste your money on other cheaper frothers. This machine works fantastic! It’s easy to clean because the top section lifts off and you can hand wash or put in the dishwasher. Super quite and does a great job and making cream froth! We have had it now since January 2024 (3 months) and have used it at least once or twice a day. Great product!
