There are a lot of meat thermometers out there from $5.00 to well over $100.00 and they probably all work (for a while anyway) and the accuracy varies with the price as. I have been using digital meat thermometers for a very long time now and I have found that they are absolutely a necessity when cooking. Not only meat, but to check the “doneness” of other foods as well. This unit has a very high accuracy rating by the vendor and in checking that against some of my other thermometers it appears to check out as very accurate, but being NIST Certified is a big deal in validation of its accuracy. Its response time is super quick and the probe tip is very thin, a feature that i really like because it’s so easy to penetrate a piece of meat and when in use, the light stays on.
I keep it on the side of my refrigerator, near the stove, so it is always easy to grab when I need it. I have also found simplicity seems to be equally important, since checking the temperature of something is a very simple task. Too many products take a simple function and complicate it with extra buttons, excessive instructions on the side of the unit. I especially like the fact that this one kept it simple to use and being able to “Lock” the readout is a very important feature when barbequing outside in the sun. The auto rotate display is really important when you’re trying to read it at an angle.
I also like the fact that it’s waterproof, since cooking always includes moisture in one form or another. The price of $29.99 is reasonable when compared to many other high quality thermometers and time will tell how long it will last. Surprisingly, it uses a standard AAA 1.5 volt battery (even has a little screwdriver included), not a typical disc type 3 volt lithium battery that I have seen in so many other instant read digital thermometers, so I would probably replace the battery that comes with it to a high quality lithium battery that is less likely to leak, but that’s just my opinion.

This thermometer is fast accurate and easy to use. I tested the accuracy with a glass of ice, boiling water near sea level, air temperature and side by side with other thermometers.
My wife likes the refrigerator magnet feature to keep it at hand and ready to use. A bit larger than others, but ergonomically shaped and a comfortable in the hand. My back up is relegated to checking pool temperatures.

What an upgrade from my previous meat thermometer. While that one served me well, this has several features that make it way more handy and enjoyable to use. I love the waterproof rating as it makes washing it less dicey compared to my old one where I was always worried about water ingress into the internals if water splashed or got anywhere other than the probe. That makes cleaning this one easy whether I’m using it to check the internal temperature of meat or using it to check fry oil temperature.
The hinge on this feels super sturdy and the only exterior button is a “hold” function. The thermometer automatically turns on once the probe is swung past about 15-20 degrees from closed. The backlighting makes it easy to read and the numbers orient to facing up regardless of which side you flip it to. While the probe is open it has an auto-off/sleep function if the thermometer isn’t being moved, so you can set it down and it’ll turn off until you pick it up again while cooking. The bottle cap opener is a nice feature but not one I’ve used. The magnets on the back hold well to the fridge side and keep the thermometer within easy reach but out of the way when not in use. The casing feels robust. All in all a great value and addition to your cooking arsenal.

Works fast and so easy to read. The waterproof feature makes it so easy to clean. Being able to quickly put it away using the magnet to hang on the refrigerator is excellent. Well made and a good buy!

I am not a chef, but want to know when my food is cooked to the right temperature. I had a couple of the digital “stick” meat thermometers, that both died, possibly from someone submerging them when washing them. They were slow to get to the actual temperate of the meat, and not all that accurate. This one is great, it reads instantly, it was so fast I didn’t believe it until I tested it against things of known temperature. It is accurate within spec. The thing is calibrated, and NIST traceable for the that calibration. I was very surprised, I worked in a regulated industry in the past and know what that NIST traceability means. It is not something that you will find for a cheap foreign made thermometer. The thermometer turns on when you open the probe and turns off the instant you close it. This saves battery life, and with the probe stowed, there is no chance of “stabbing” someone with it or the kids getting hurt. And oh, it’s magnetic so you can stick it on the oven, or the fridge out of little one’s reach.
This is a well-designed and build device. It is obvious that the company takes pride in this product. It may cost of slight bit more than others, but it is worth every penny. This will probably last me a lifetime, no planned obsolescence here! Bravo to a company that actually produces a quality product in today’s market!

update: next day – After using the thermometer, it’s not as fast as I thought because it doesn’t give the actual temperature that fast. I takes about 3 seconds to get up to the actual temperature. bummer. -1 star
I’ve got large hands, so a larger thermometer is a nice fit. This one works great and the shake-awake or shake-on or whatever it’s called is VERY handy. It’s even got a magnet on it so I can keep it on the fridge or the front of the stove to have it at the ready. Just pick it up from where it is and it automatically turns on. I REALLY like that feature. And it’s FAST. It does give you a reading in about half a second.
I think I know what my sisters are getting for Christmas this year!

Pros and Cons –
A lot of thermometers are out on the market and they can be a hassle to deal with. They have apps and everything but this one is extremely simple and easy to use. This thermometer is great. The thermometer reads almost the instant you put it in and it is pretty accurate. This helps me to keep my cooking up to speed and lets me cook without having to worry about overcooking or especially undercooking for something like chicken breasts. Highly recommend this for people that want to make sure their cooking is done to the temperature that they want.

As a professional chef, I need a trusty instant read thermometer everyday. When my old one died I needed a quick replacement. This one was inexpensive so I quick bought it.
I’ve used it for 3 weeks now at an insanely busy commercial kitchen and, yeppers, it is fast.
My other Chefs Du Parties have nicknamed it the Jitterbug due to its kinda large design and it’s simple functionality-it tells you the temperature and that is all. No timers, no fanciness.
And, to be honest as an older chef I appreciate the heck out of the large display that auto rotates and lights up.
I would buy this product again.

Fast and quick read-out as advertised. I tested it against another digital thermometer I own and they correlate. Size is on the large side but the integrated bottle opener is a nice add. Several cool features like the large auto-rotating display make it an ambidextrous tool. I always like tools with integrated magnets as it vastly increases your ability to store the tool in a convenient location, and with this one you could attach it right to the side of the oven or grill. And being water resistant means cleaning is simple and easy.
