This saves SO much time and is very easy to clean. Made a double recipe of dal today. Chopping 20 cloves of garlic usually takes a while and makes a huge mess. I popped all of them in the little cup. One minute of pulsing and poof! I was done and clean up was a breeze! Then I used the immersion tool to purée half the lentils. Two minutes in the same pan and again, cleanup is easy. I used to put half the lentils in a blender (messy) and puree and return to the pan (even messier). Makes the fluffiest frittata because the eggs blend so quickly and get lots of air into the mixture. Wish I’d gotten this years ago.

The Braun presents a reasonably priced solution to eliminate plastic smoothie cups since it fits into wide mouth Mason jars. It does not fit regular mouth Mason jars though. While not nearly as convenient as a smoothie cup on a blender with a dedicated set and forget smoothie button, it will blend up a perfect protein shake in a wide mouth Mason jar without balking at frozen fruit, dried goji berries and greens every time. One of my first attempts was a bit light on the liquids, and the result was more of a protein smoothie bowl that was almost to thick to pour, so that demonstrated the more than ample power capability of this handheld blender. The VitaMix handheld was tempting as I’ve owned VitaMix blenders in the past, but the plastic “Pan Saver” lining surrounding the blades killed that option. There were a few other all stainless steel brands but they had slotted blade shrouds that drew numerous complaints from reviews, so the Braun seemed the best choice for eliminating plastic parts contacting your food and a blade shroud with no slots to clog. Hope this helps in your quest to eliminate unwanted plastics from your diet.

This replaced one like it that ran for 20 years by Braun, it finally gave out, this one is much better, stronger, 350 watts, for mixing frozen ingredients, the end comes off for easy cleaning, even comes with a whipped cream attachments, no need to break out the mixer!

Like a lot of people, I bought this because the NYT Wirecutter recommended it as the best immersion blender out there.

I like that it has variable speeds, and quick access to full power with a separate button so you don’t need to try to turn the speed dial while it is running. It is a very ergonomic design, easy to hold and control, and it seems to have plenty of power.

I decided that ultimately, I like that the little hood that covers the blade doesn’t have any gaps or holes in it. To be clear, that design choice is somewhat of a mixed bag. Some other immersion blenders have gaps or perforations in the hood to help circulate the material better, but at greater risk of splashing. The main downside of this closed hood design is when you want to whip air into eggs or whatever, it requires pulling the head almost entirely out of what you are mixing, repeatedly. Not a big deal, and I think that, overall, it is more important to keep stuff from splashing vs. the incremental benefits of slots in the hood, but it is a noticeable change from how my last hand blender worked.

Cleaning it is easy. I hand wash the beater but the instructions say you can theoretically throw it in the dishwasher.

I bought the basic one without all the attachments. I also bought a separate, metal milkshake cup, which I use with this constantly for everything, not just milkshakes. They give you a thin, plastic mixing cup, but I learned the hard way that even very solid glassware is really not up for being used with a hand blender. You can get away with it for a while, but it puts absurd stress on the glass. So I don’t expect the thin plastic cup to fare much better. Do yourself a favor and get a metal milkshake cup to use with this if you don’t already have one, they are cheap, oversized, indestructible and make using a hand blender so much easier.

I love this immersion blender. It is more powerful than a regular hand mixer. It’s big, but the blender blade arm is detachable and washable. It is relatively quiet for its size. I bought an Amazon return item that was scored as ‘Excellent’ condition and it is in EXCELLENT [meaning brand new] condition. All pieces in the box were in the original wrapping and the cord was still in the original twist-tie. The box looked a bit worn. I couldn’t be happier with this Braun Immersion Blender and with the 25% off from Amazon b/c it was a ‘Returned’ item.
Tip: If this is your first Immersion Blender, and you use it to mash cooked vegetables in a pot, resist the urge to press the blender down to the bottom of the pan. If you do, chances are you will clog the blender head. The blades will still turn, but the head will not chop up the veg as fast as if you take it slow and don’t proceed to the next spot until you feel or hear the unit operating freely. Then move to your next blending spot in the pan.
