After 8 years of daily use (multiple times/day), it was time to retire my old one, and replace it with the exact same model. I was a little disappointed that Breville didn’t update the look of this product at all in the last 8 years, but I still loved it so I got the same one again (and to match all of my other Breville small appliances). My old one still worked well, but the connection with the base wasn’t as reliable any longer when putting the kettle on the base. It would occasionally reset and stop boiling water if the water in the kettle was sloshing around too much since the connection would be momentarily lost from the small movements. It’s completely understandable to have some wear and tear after 8 years of use several times per day, and I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did. I would have been fine still using the old one, but the wife was complaining about it and you know what they say about having a happy wife… Sure, it’s a bit pricey compared to a lot of the copycat generic water kettles that have come out since, but Breville is a bit of a pricier brand. All of my Breville appliances have served me well, this kettle included.

This kettle is probably the best we have ever owned, mostly because the plastic-free choices are truly few and far between– if you want plastic-free you have to pay. Too bad it is not quite there in meeting quality expectations. Yes, pros outweigh cons, but it is not a five-star item yet. (Why it is so difficult for industry to deliver a reliable plastic-free water kettle for under 3 figures is a topic for another day).
Pros: reliable, accurate, beautifully designed, no plastic in contact with water– all of the good things in previous reviews hold true.
      HOWEVER
Con: nagging build quality/design issue with plastic screw covers along the top rim near the pourspout. Silly little plastic caps will not stay in place– the one to the right of the pourspout kept popping off– reminded me of a cheap automobile.
      THEREFORE
I realize I could have returned the item, but now the burden is on me to start a return, package it up, send it back, and wait for replacement that might have the same issue all over again. So, now every time I open the lid, I am reminded that I paid top dollar for an item that just did not quite deliver. A minor frustration, but I hope the marketing and design people take note.

This is one sweet appliance! I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. I waited several months before reviewing. It is substantially constructed. Breville did NOT make a cheap, flimsy product. It works perfectly. The appliance is very attractive and pleasing to look at. No problem at all with the control buttons. The temps and wording for types of tea are easy to read. The text is above and below each button instead of on the button so it won’t wear off. The buttons are flush with the control panel making it nice and sleek. There are no extra pieces sticking out anywhere on this appliance thereby giving it it’s sleek appearance. There is an auto-open (flush) button on the upper part of the handle that auto-opens the kettle lid. It is a soft open so the lid does not suddenly fly up. If you accidently miss this button a little so the lid does not completely open, just press button again. Note that this is not a malfunction of the design but a whoops of your finger. There is a stainless steel bottom inside the glass kettle portion. It is a breeze to clean. 1 cup of white vinegar, fill pot to max line, bring to boil. Once it cools a bit so steam is not too hot for you, use a long-handled, soft-bristled brush in the vinegar solution and brush the whole inside of the pot. It cleans right up with no hard scrubbing needed (you wouldn’t want to scratch the glass if that’s possible – I don’t know). Dump out the vinegar water, rinse it, put in fresh water, bring to boil, dump that and you are done . The boiling of the pot does most of the cleaning. You won’t need to clean it like this often – only once you see class getting cloudy. It will be sparkling clean again. There is an element on bottom of the pot and the base also. No submerging pot or base! If you get a little water on these places it’s totally okay so long as you dry it up before turning kettle on. I have done this many times. Handle is easy to hold. There is a small strainer right behind the glass spout that is easy to remove and replace. Another great feature that Breville uses on all their appliances concerns the electric cord. There is a three-prong cord with a finger hole in the plug so you can easily pull it out of the wall. I thought this was ingenious and would like to thank the person at Breville that came up with it. The cord itself is heavy-duty, still flexible enough to coil up nicey, and just long enough for counter-top use. This is something that I do. I actually brew the tea in the pot but after the water comes to temp. Once the water is heated, I drop in the teabags or tea ball, set the timer for how long I want and then remove the bags/ball. I have a wooden cook spoon with a long handle that pulls the bags right up the side of the glass so I can grab them. Also, Amazon has a couple of tea balls with 7" chains that will hang on the side of the pot. This is quite convenient for me. You should know that Breville does not recommend brewing tea in their pot. However, I puzzled this out with logic and common sense considering that the kettle is stainless and glass – not materials that are bothered by tea. If you are going to do this, it’s important to know the tea is put in once the kettle is off. I did spend hours on the Internet researching all the options for electric tea kettles/brewers and reading tons of reviews. I really did not want to pay the price for the Breville but in the end its features, construction and appearance sold me. I have had a lot to say about this product because I think it is as close to perfect as I have seen in my 69 years of purchasing. I hope you will enjoy it too.

Kettle worked great for first boil. Came back to use it a few days later and it doesn’t heat water anymore. Just beeps 5 times after a minute or so, which presumably is an error code.

We really like Breville, but the kettle didn’t even last us a year. We use it everyday, multiple times a day, we are huge tea drinkers! Really disappointed. The lid would pop open mid-boil.

I’ve used many kettles over the years and this is the absolute best one I’ve ever owned. I’ve had it for two and a half years now. I and my husband use it daily. I boil water for instant ramen and various other foods that need hot water. I’ve used the different settings it has, to get the temperature perfect for various tea types and pour-over coffees. It’s so simple. Just press the button for the right temperature and when it’s done, it beeps to let me know it’s ready. I’ve never had any issues with this Breville Kettle Pure. The water reaches peak temperatures quickly. In fact, it’s faster to heat than most other kettles I’ve owned. It’s easy to clean and it doesn’t get overly hot to the touch so I’ve never burned myself as I have with other kettles.
      Features I love:
      – The lid soft opens with a button release, so there’s no splashing of hot water when the lid lifts.
      – The handle fits all hand types. I have small hands. My husband has large hands. Neither of us has had a problem holding the kettle or pouring.
      – The base plugs into the wall and the pitcher is free, so I can carry it to the table after it’s reached its temperature.
      – The Safty Auto Shut-Off and Boil Dry Protection features are awesome! After one minute, the base beeps and shuts off for protection.
      – I love the Keep Warm feature, which keeps the water at temp for one minute after boil. It gives me time to get to the kettle after it’s completed.
      – The 7 cup pitcher is made of German Schott Glass. It’s sturdy and strongly made. I’ve even dropped it once and never had it break.
      – There’s a filter at the spout.
      – There are 5 temperature settings that allow me to adjust it from the lowest setting with a slight boil – best for green teas and such – all the way up to a nearly hard boil, for things like black teas. And then the hardest boil, which is great for foods and pour-over coffee.
      – The start/cancel button is convenient. AND… the best part, even after you hit the start button, you can still adjust the temp setting by just pressing a different button and it’ll brew to the temp you set it for. I’ve often started the kettle and realized I needed a different setting, so instead of turning it off and back on like I do other kettles, I just hit the button for the new setting and the kettle adjusts accordingly. I LOVE that!
This kettle is a must-have for anyone who wants a way to boil water quickly and safely. Like I said, I’ve had it for over two years and it still works perfectly. IF and/or when this one stops working, I want another one just like it.

I’m a tea freak and love inventions like this one.

PROS: Love the glass, love the temp settings. Takes a bit longer than other perfect-temp kettles but like that it’s not all metal and I feel it’s worth the wait. My wife likes this better than our last tea kettle that did similar things. If she’s happy, I sure am.

CONS: I have super filtered RO water and regardless it still builds up calcium on the bottom. Have to stick your hand in there to clean it and because I have ogre hands that don’t fit I have to beg my wife to help. Point is, you have to clean it once every two or three refills or it will get out of hand and build up to impossible-to-clean state. There’s the nice feature of the slip-in slip-out filter that catches these calcium deposits before they drop into your morning oolong. The one thing that irks me, and why this bad-boy gets three stars instead of five, is that silly little filter breaks very easily. If you’re like me and don’t like calcium deposits in your tea, and clean your kettle often, you’d have to remove the filter to clean it out. Well removing and re-installing the filter is like the game of Operation and if you slip up, instead of a buzzer you get a broken filter. The lame little tab that holds it into place is extremely weak and snaps off easily. Mine did and every time we try and use it with the filter, the filter drops into hot water. Lame.

Behold, they sell these filters as replacements on the Breville website for only $1! YESS! Well, that’s what you think until you see that it costs $9.95 to ship that $1 filter to yourself. After calling Breville to ask if they’d kindly send a replacement or not a possible way to pay for regular mail instead of fedex, they kindly said no and directed me to their website on how to purchase it. So, because I’m a suckker for a happy wife, I bought two just in case the second one has the same fate as the first. If you’re like me and a boyscout and want to buy a few extras just in case, fork over another $9.95 shipping for any amount more than two at a time. That kind of stuff drives me mad. I’m sure I’m alone in my perfectionist way of thinking but I’d love to have things work out to not always cost more than what is fair to have it the way you would like. But in summary, this kettle is better than the other ones out there. So I’ll put up with their bs until the hot new one comes rolling into my life and I find a way to break it and complain again.

      Thanks for reading.

Is it possible to be in love with a kettle?? This is such a beautiful kettle and functional at the same time. It is a bit on the more expensive end, but I think it will be well worth it. Just received it, extremely easy to use, very quiet operation too.

I have used quite a few kettles, most of them noisy, including my previous Cuisinart 3-yr-old CPK-17 which died Saturday. It started leaking from the bottom of the handle about a year ago on occasion. Then recently, it became a regular thing, until this past week, the electrical element started making buzzing noises. Saturday morning it would no longer function. And the search was on for a new kettle. The list was short and this Breville was at the top of the list for me. I had already been looking into getting a new one since I knew the Cuisinart was about to give out.

This one meets all the criteria for me, as stated, quiet, has all the presets for different water temps, a keep warm button, easy-peasy operation. Doesn’t get much better. The only things I can’t answer definitely right now are ease of cleaning, and longevity. Cleaning seems so very simple like any other kettle or coffee pot. As for longevity, will have to wait and see. If it lasts five years, I will feel like I got my money’s worth out of it. Given that it’s Breville, I’ll be surprised if I don’t have it 15 or 20 years. Breville does make quality products.
