Similar to many others, my Cuisinart did not work on the pod side. i searched Google and figured out the problem in just a few minutes. There is a small rubber button in the back of the pod area (see red circle in pic) that needs to be pressed to enable the pod maker to work. I pressed it and the pod light came right on. Made a cup of coffee using a K-cup and all is well.

I bought the SS-16 to replace a 5 year old SS-15 model. This unit has improved upon some of the negative features of the older model. Here are the improvements:

      1. Older model would splash all over counter when brewing single serve unless you used a tall travel mug. This model has a flip shelf so that you can use shorter mugs without making a mess or having to hold the cup close to the dispenser while brewing.
      2. This model has the single serve and regular brew sides reversed. This allows you to pour water into the regular brew side much easier since the larger reservoir opening is on the right side of the machine. On the older model, the larger opening was just to the left of the single serve side making it difficult to pour the water in the reservoir.
      3. The needle which punctures the k-cup is cone shaped on the newer model with the water opening toward the back of the needle. On the older model, the needle was a small metal cylinder with a hole in the center. The older model would sometimes split the k-cup and cause the grinds to back up in the unit and make a mess. Hopefully, the design of the newer model has fixed that problem. To date, I have not had a k-cup explosion. This remains to be seen.

Overall, I like the fact that I can brew a regular pot of coffee or make a single cup using one machine. I like the fact that I am not forced to make a specific number of cups of coffee on the regular brew side. Many combo machines retain water in an internal reservoir and force the user to make a specified number of cups. This machine does not retain any water after brewing. On the regular serve side, you brew as much coffee as there is water in the reservoir. On the single serve side, the water reservoir is removable, so it can be emptied when not in use. Most Keurig machines retain water in an internal reservoir which seems like it can be a breeding ground for mold due to the stagnant water in the machine.

I make a full pot of coffee almost every day, and if not, I’ll have a few k-cups instead. I hope I can get 5 years of daily usage out of this machine.

We enjoy the craft side of this coffee machine. We have had major issues with the pod side. Each time we use it, since the first time, it overflows and grounds get all in the cup of coffee and also all in and around the machine. It is a pain to clean the grounds out of the machine because no parts come out to clean, you just have to wipe inside and around until all the grounds are gone, this is very time consuming. Also when I contacted Cuisinart customer service I do not think their return policy is fair. They want me to cut the cord to the machine, take a picture of this, send back the machine and then wait 2 weeks for the replacement, therefore we would be without a coffee pot for two weeks because they sell a faulty product? If I have to go out and get a new coffee pot I’m going to buy a new one and not waste 200$ on one that doesn’t work well. I asked if they could charge me for the new one, ship it and then refund me when they get my broken one back, so we can use the craft side in the mean time, so we don’t have to be without one. They told me no, and I will have to go without and wait for the replacement. Seems strange, I asked why they operate this way and they responded, “we have alot of fraud and don’t trust customers to return the products”. Well welcome to the world, everyone deals with fraud, unfortunately part of owning a company is making the customer happy and standing behind your product. Very disappointed in this company and the product quality. Do not buy this machine!

I ordered and returned six cuisinarts, including grind and brews after my old pot stopped working.

It was worth all the trying and returning because this pot is fantastic. Super fast pods on the other side instead of the right side, so it’s easy to fill both.Reservoirs

Greet hot, strong fast coffee currently using 8 o’clock Colombian ground directly from eight o’clock coffee

Love strong coffee so really appreciate the range of oz settings when using pods. 4oz and up

Also detects if you didnt open and remove pod since last brew & will not brew another. Ssves us from crappy coffee from forgetting to change used pods before brewing

I’ve been using this for about a month and I am happy so far. The carafe is big if we need to make a lot of coffee. But having the option of making one cup only is great, that is the side we use most. The built in filters that comes with each side saves me money from not needing to buy filters and I get to use the same coffee for both sides. No need to buy individual pods, which can add up $$. The water reservoir holds enough for multiple cups and is easy to detach so you can fill it. The instructions are easy to read. The display is very nice and modern. It makes hot and cold coffee and we use both options. The one thing I did not account for is the height of the machine. My cabinet on top does not allow me to fully open the lid on the right side. The machine is too tall and I do not have enough space between the top and bottom cabinets. That was my fault though, as I should have measured. I recommend measuring your space before you buy. You will need about a foot of space between the top of the machine and the top cabinet to fully lift the lid up. This is only an issue for the side of the carafe not the single cup that takes pods. That side works fine as it is a smaller lid that does not take up as much space. That is the only inconvenience I have with this machine. But it is not a reason for me to return it. I feel like happy with this purchase and have gotten compliments on it from family members who visit.

While the machine is beautiful and exactly what I was hoping to purchase, the initial disappointment was in the delivery. The box was broken. Thankfully, I got the machine into the house and unpacked and everything looked okay. Though right away, I noticed that there were missing materials: the two charcoal water filters for the units filtration, and the 4 started coffee filters for the first cups. This was frustration, but not insurmountable.

I then went on to prepare the machine. Plugged it in, set the time, sent through the first cleanse through the carafe side of the machine. Now to test the pod side. It didn’t work. The troubleshooting guide that came with the unit wasn’t helpful, so I went on line. I found a few sites dedicated to this specific issue, so I followed the directions; and still the single-serve pod side of the until doesn’t work.

This was the reason I purchase this particular machine. Additionally, I have had such good experiences with my cuisinarts in the past. This is so very disappointing. I’m going to have to return it.

Very nice except somewhat confusing instructions . Watched on You TUBE. Instructions clear

Thank you P. Martino for your post regarding the pod issue. Just received today and the pod side would not work. Found the button you referenced (and not addressed in the instructions)
and presto. Perfect and no issues on either side.

Very happy with this purchase overall. The only feature that’s not the best is the iced coffee feature. Doesn’t really come out cold at all / melts the ice (and I was using a full glass of ice) almost fully while brewing. If that feature was better it would be 5 stars.
