Sorry it took me so long to find this one. Made iced coffee as soon as it arrived, tastes great, machine is cute, runs smoothly. Little bigger profile than I wanted in a 5 cup machine but it’s sturdy and solid and my guess is it’ll last longer than the last few I’ve had.

I’m reviewing “CUISINART SOHO DCC-5 5-Cup Coffee Maker, Black, DCC-5BK” which I received via the VINE program.

I normally use a Nespresso for my daily latte, but I’ve been missing regular brewed coffee lately. I got this thinking it’s small enough to not take up a ton of space and I could make a small pot without wasting any that I didn’t drink. I already have a TON of Cuisinart appliances so I figured this would be worth a shot.

It was packaged well and is indeed the petite size I was after. The water reservoir is on top and is easily filled either by filling the carafe to the desired level and pouring into the reservoir or by removing the reservoir and bring it to the water source. There is a small filter in it that helps to filter the water if desired and it has a nice way of keeping the cord contained in the back of the unit. It comes with a few of the smaller size paper filters and a permanent nylon filter. That is what I usually opt to use.

The filter basket pulls out completely for washing and for filling with grounds. I’m currently running everything through a dishwasher cycle now and did previously last night as well to prepare it for breakfast this morning.

So far I’m very pleased with this little coffee maker. It seems as though it was designed with the intention of use in a hotel room or just simple as a small coffee maker.

The only “gripe” I have with it, is that when plugged in, the darn Brew/Cancel button flashes off and on continuously. So far, I’ve dealt with that by keeping it unplugged, but all in all, I don’t even think that is enough to make me want to deduct a star.

Beautiful machine!! It brews very slowly, but it makes the cutest little gurgling sounds as it goes, like it’s proud to be brewing you a cup of coffee. I’ll update after a few months, but as of day one I am a fan.

Compared to the simpler/basic coffee makers I’m used to, this has a lot of great features and makes me feel they spent a lot of time brainstorming how to make this a convenient coffee maker to use (at least for a still purely manual coffee maker).

The reservoir has one of those angled plates with the measurements so that you can read the water level from the top instead of trying to look at a gauge on the side. Both the reservoir and this angled plate are removable to make cleaning the reservoir easier. I’m sure you’ll still need to run a cleaning/descaling solution through the machine every once in a while, but this at least makes it so you can easily clean the reservoir as often as you do the carafe and filter basket. While I have filtered water on tap, there is a filter holder on the outlet of the reservoir for a small activated carbon filter (one is included along with a small set of paper filters packed into the filter basket out of the box). Note that activated carbon will help remove impurities that make water taste off, but will not remove the minerals that cause scale buildup. Finally there’s a coffee measuring scoop built into the lid of the reservoir that’s sized for one scoop per cup of hot coffee. They even made it so that the scoop attaches in either orientation into its slot so you’re not messing with that before you’ve had your coffee.

Along with the reusable nylon coffee filter, you really don’t need anything to keep brewing coffee with this machine other than the ground coffee itself (and water… um, and electricity).

You get about 30 inches of power cord (measured from the beginning of the plug to where it goes into the machine), which should be plenty for most counters. And it’s got space in the body to stuff the whole cord into it up to the plug.

In the end it’s still just a drip coffee maker, but a convenient to use drip coffee maker.

For some reason Amazon asked me to rate this thing’s “blending power” as one of its features. Unfortunately I’m going to have to give it one star for blending. I’m sure Cuisinart would discourage you from trying to use any part of this machine as a blender.

This is a nice small coffee maker. I can see a single or a college student using this.

I acquired this for use in our vacation home. I prefer freshly brewed coffee to k-cups.

Set up is quick and easy. The unit comes with a charcoal filter – luckily, it’s the same kind of filter that my 12-cup Cuisinart coffee maker uses. It really does help with the flavor of the coffee, so don’t skip using and replacing this item. It includes a permanent nylon filter that is what I’ll probably use. It can also use #2 basket paper filters. I was sorry that it didn’t use cone filters, like my 12 cup, as I have never had problems with cones collapsing like I have with basket filters.

The water comes out nice and hot, which is important for the flavor of the coffee. After using it a few times, I’m pleased with how smooth the coffee is compared to my other small pot and the K-cup maker. It’s every bit as good as what I get out of my 12 cup.

Although it does make good coffee, I have a couple of complaints. Chief among them is the short power cord. I have to rearrange things on the countertop so that I can plug it in.

Second complaint – when the coffee maker is turned off, the on/off switch flashes. The only way to get it to stop is to unplug it. I’ll grumble and do it, but I can’t see guests doing it.

Third complaint – it’s a pain in the wazoo to get the complete owner’s manual. I scanned their qr code, so it’s on my phone. But I’d like to have something that I can actually…read. I tried several times to type in the web address, but that got me nothing. I’ll try calling their 800 number next week.

worse coffee maker I ever bought! brew button confusing to use only stays on for 1/2 hr. Having trouble with lining up with coffee pot and filter. When taking a cup and replacing the pot on the burner, If not exactly right it does not drain into pot and over flows .
