      Ok it’s not BAD. I use it daily. There are just a couple extra elements that would make a big difference and these elements are limitations that affect its use almost daily:
      1. The lid doesn’t fully open just by clicking clicking the button on the handle. I know- that’s the whole point of the button! But it only opens it about 2/3 of the way. The lid actually open until it’s straight up, which is sufficient (further would be better but when I manually open it the rest of the way to a full 90 degrees from being closed, I can fill it just fine. But when I click the open button and it opens as far as it does on its own- probably about 60 degrees- I can’t easily pour from the filtered water or even get it under the tap. It’s just a very short-sighted thing because THE LID DOES FULLY OPEN TO THE 90 DEGREES, it just requires the action of grabbing on the the mostly-open-lid and pulling it the rest of the way forward. But clearly in an effort to reduce manufacturing costs they went with a spring or other mechanism that just isn’t strong enough to open the lid fully. So every time I refill it I have to deal with this.
      2. Its ‘smart’ functionality, while present, really leaves something to be desired- at least the integration with Alexa. Sure I can turn it on and off and I can even change the temp with my voice, but but it won’t tell me if it needs water added, I just have to wait until I go out to make the coffee, which defeats the purpose of having a smart home-enabled device. And the Alexa integration isn’t as deep as it could be because I can’t add it as a favorite even though it’s a direct integration (eg not connected via a separate app that’s connected to Alexa).
      3. The button arrangement/uses. All the buttons (power/on, WiFi enabled, temp up, temp down) are the same size with equal placement- except the WiFi button has a circular light around it that indicates whether WiFi is enabled. Which it always is for me, so this blue light is on constantly and is as bright as the small old school digital display (the read out looks kind of like a calculator display) that indicates whether the water is hot, or it needs to be refilled. THAT display turns off when the kettle is off, but the WiFi light stays on.
      So not only did they NOT use the light for the most helpful function- to indicate whether the kettle is heating (most other smart kettles I’ve seen DO have an indicator they can easily be seen from across the room indicating whether it’s heating), but all the buttons are the same size and take up the same amount of space- even though the power button would be used daily and the other buttons rarely if ever after initial setup.
      These are so glaringly obvious that all of these would have come up even with the absolute minimum of actual product testing. That they ignored them just to release a product is frustrating and annoying. I assumed such fundamental elements would have been factored in and therefor didn’t think I needed to research how far the lid opens or whether the WiFi light- equaling the brightness of the main display- would stay on permanently or not.
      Just kind of silly things that could have been addressed with minimal cost increases. Which I happily would have paid to have a fully working unit.

      This teapot was super easy to set up with my wifi and I love the voice controls. But there are a few features that drive me nuts. First, there’s no alert when your water reaches temperature, so you’re forced to either look at the app or check the display on the pot. Annoying. Second, I can’t actually get it to boil water. The highest it heats is to about 195° which is not a high enough temp for black tea. Also, the “keep warm” setting doesn’t really keep the water “warm” to the temp you set it to. Keeps it around 175-180° and I have to tell Alexa to shut it off and turn it back on again if I want the water hotter than that. Instructing her to start it doesn’t work from the “Keep Warm” setting. Also annoying. I’ve contacted Hamilton Beach about the temperature issue of it not boiling water, so we’ll see what they say.

      This Hamilton Beach smart electric kettle is perfect integration of old and new technology.

      Here’s my list to simplify everything down!

      Positives:

      – Easy Alexa Integration:
      Go to your Amazon Alexa app and from there you can quickly setup this kettle under new devices. No third party apps or gimmicks just straightforward easy Integration.

      – Reliable Connection:
      Finally a smart home kitchen device that doesn’t constantly disconnect. I leave this devices plugged out during the weekend and plugged in during the weekdays and it has zero issues connecting to Alexa or receiving its commands.

      – Transparent Water Level Indicator:
      This is great because I don’t have to open up the hot kettle to see how much water is left in the tank.

      – Good Build Quality:
      This kettle feels sturdy to hold!

      – Good Insulation:
      The water stays hot for hours even after the kettle is turned off.

      – Fast Heating:
      The water will heat up to boiling levels within 10 minutes.

      Negatives:

      – None!

      Final Thoughts?
      This kettle from Hamilton Beach is surprisingly superb and highly refined. To say the least, I’m a fan!

      It took me a long time to convert from my stovetop tea kettle but I’m now a believer. I love that I can have this on a timer so it starts heating before I even get out of bed in the morning. If I get up earlier I just tap on my Alexa app to get it going. I also love that it has a digital thermometer, keeps the water warm for my selected amount of time, and has an auto shut off. I can’t recommend this product enough.

      The Wi-Fi was a little confusing to set up since the red light blinks after plugging in. Luckily read a review that said to press it once anyways to pair with Alexa. QR code also did not work for me.

      Otherwise though, heats to temp and works great once you get past that setup

      This pot was difficult to connect to Wi-Fi but once I finally found the code and got it figured out it did pair with Alexa and I could change the temperature or start it remotely. Unfortunately it’s missing a basic feature that would make the smart features more useful since it turns off the heating when it gets to temperature and quickly begins to cool down. This means you must arrive to the kettle at just the right moment if you want your water at the specific temperature or restart it to heat up to the temperature you desire. This eliminated the benefit of having a smart kettle that I could start from upstairs or as I was returning home. I live the idea but it’s just not quite realized yet in this kettle.

      An updated review. After a few weeks the kettle started to miss the target temperature but as much as 25F. Meaning that the top end temperature is not achieved any longer. The was reported to Hamilton Beach and their response was that this was NORMAL behavior. So in essence the kettle fails to perform to specifications. I enjoy the Alexa integration, but a kettle that cannot perform is useless. Hamilton Beach have not addressed the issues, so Amazon allow me to return it.

      The Alexa integration was breeze – and I am already enjoying the feature. I work home-office and can now request the kettle to turn on and boil from my desk, so the water is ready for the end of a meeting. It’s also good for first thing in the morning – before getting out of bed. I do think what Hamilton Beach has missed a small design feature, that is a tone to indicate the kettle has reached the desired boiling point and has turned off. Perhaps even having Alexa make an announcement.

      After using this for ONE week it started to leak. Also there is no beep when boiling completes. I sent it back for a replacement, let’s hope this one doesn’t do the same. Stay tuned for an update.

      We’ve had several cheap hot water kettles, and one that retails for $300. My wife likes this Hamilton Beach smart electric kettle better than all of those! The Hamilton Beach kettle has an easy-to-set-up procedure, and if you’re using Alexa, it can be set up in less than 5 minutes! Then, you can control your kettle using voice commands, which is particularly useful in setting the water temperature. Very easy, too! The kettle holds 1.7 liters of water, which is 0.2 liters more than our $300 kettle. It has a single pushbutton to open the lid, which requires only one hand, and is easier to open and safer than pulling the top off of our $300 kettle. The Hamilton Beach kettle heats water slightly faster, even though it’s heating a larger volume. The water temperature precision is within 1 degree of the $300 kettle. My only complaints about this kettle are that it’s made of very thin steel, and has a very light-weight base. Is it worth the $95 price? I guess that depends on whether you regularly adjust the water temperature as we do for tea, etc. If you need that feature, it can save some time. If not, a less-smart cheaper kettle for 1/3 to 1/2 the cost would work just as well. Recommended!

      We chose this electric kettle to replace an old electric kettle that needed to be replaced. The main reason we chose this kettle was due to the Alexa integration.

      For a kettle it works great. It does its job of heating up water and shutting off automatically once the desired temperature is reached. There is an added option of being able to leave the kettle on in a warm state so that the water stays hot. The default is to keep the water warm for 30 minutes. The nice part about the kettle is that you can adjust it to what desired temperature you would like the water heated up to in case you don’t necessarily want to bring it all the way up to a boil. All of this can be done at the kettle itself without the need for the Alexa app.

      Regarding Alexa integration, you just use the Alexa app to configure everything. There is no separate app as is common with other type of smart devices. I just opened the Alexa app, told it to find new devices, and it found the kettle right away. Once found I was able to configure it to which Wi-Fi network to connect to. Configuration was a snap and actually required less steps than in the instructions.

      Once it is connected to Wi-Fi and your Alexa account, you can open the kettle as a device from the Alexa app and control it from there. Besides turning it on and off, you can also set the temperature. You can also tell it how long you want the keep warm time to be, something that you cannot do from the kettle itself (from the kettle it just defaults to 30 minutes). Presets are also included in the Alexa app for different types of teas and other recipes that need hot water. Depending on which preset you select it will select the appropriate temperature.

      Alexa voice integration also works very well. So far, we have been able to turn on and off the kettle, set the temperature, and set a preset via voice commands. We have not figured out how to set the warm time via voice commands. I am not sure if there are any other voice commands we can use, and I could not find documented what other voice commands are supported (if any). We just tried some out and found what worked.

      One feature we would like to see is once the kettle is done heating up the water and shuts off that it notifies either via a notification on the phone or via an announcement via echo devices. This may be possible via routines, but I have not played around enough with it to know for sure. It would be nice if this was just an option that was available out of the box.

      Overall, a very nice electric kettle and we are very happy with it. Definitely recommend it.
