If you are a tea lover who has always wondered ‘what if I could brew with the exact right temperature of water?’ this is the answer. It’s inexpensive, heats the water amazingly quickly & at the touch of a button, you have water precisely the correct temperature for whatever your favorite tea may be. This is my favorite kitchen gadget yet!

Why have I waited this long to purchase an electric kettle? This one came highly rated and did not disappoint. We like that the light is on while the kettle is heating and turns off when it’s done. My 12 year old uses it to boil water for her instant noodles and I use it to pre-boil water when I’m need to get dinner on the table quickly. So far,we’ve not used it for tea or other beverages as it’s too hot this time of year. 5 stars all the way.

It’s a good kettle, but it might not work for very long. My base stopped working a year and a month after purchasing the kettle. The warranty is only for one year. A new base is $17 from Hamilton Beach, but shipping is another $13. I asked HB if they could give me any kind of discount or maybe free shipping given that the product was defective; they told me to kick rocks.

It’s a decent enough kettle that I guess I’m willing to pay $30 / yr to just keep replacing the base. Maybe I’ll think of it as a kettle subscription.

We’ve been using this kettle for a few months now. Over all I am happy with it. There are a few things that I wish would be fixed for a smoother user experience. Once you click the desired temp you still have to press the start button. That seems just a little unnecessary but very small problem. The kettle will auto shut off at the desired temp EXCEPT when you are boiling. When you select boil it will keep going until all the water is gone. Yeah, accidentally turned my kitchen into a sauna before realizing that one.

Over all it’s a decent kettle.

I use this kettle once a day to make my pour over coffee. After about 8 months if would no longer shut off when it reached temperature. That is a huge safety hazard!!!
I thought I was doing something wrong, but that was not the case. So I would just take it off and place on the counter when it came to temperature. Finally I started leaking from below yesterday. This is a DANGEROUS PIECE OF JUNK, and I would not buy it again.I should have asked for warranty service before it expired in May. My Cuisinart kettle still works well after several years of use. DO NOT BUY!!

This kettle works as advertised. I was looking for one that you could enter the temperature of choice, and then store that setting for future use, but I couldn’t find one (at least in the price range I was looking). So I settled for this and it’s great! Enough temperature settings to satisfy nearly everyone aside from a friend who likes his at 150.

I was worried it would be hard to fill/clean due to the lid not being completely removable, but the top is wide enough there are no issues. I like the glass so I can see if there is any gunk inside.

I’ve had it for a month. No problems so far, we’ll see if any develop.

Update – August 2019. Kettle is Dead Right There. No lights. No heat. Nothing. Worked this afternoon, now it does not work. Gentle adult usage regularly through the day for tea and herbal tea. Liked it when it worked.

Update 2: Got a replacement for $12 shipping from Hamilton Beach, as it was under warranty. From the first day till today (a couple of weeks) it has been seeping water out of the bottom. There’s electronics under there – that can’t be good. Also leaves a bit of a mess on the counter; cannot use on wood kitchen table. Submitted for *second* warranty claim.

Update 3: They sent the wrong kettle. A steel non-temp controlled thing. After a few more emails, the original clear kettle showed up. Set it up per the instructions to the letter. Lasted a day and a half. No heat, no blue lights. Sumbitted a *third* warranty claim. DO NOT BUY THIS KETTLE.

Works well after the first month. Offers a wide selection of temperatures to heat your water. Unfortunately, after a month of daily use, the writing is wearing off. Still works fine.

After about 6 weeks the buttons are starting to stick. I forsee another replacement in my future. Dropped one star.

I’ve been wanting to buy an electric tea kettle for quite some time to keep in my office. As an avid tea drinker, and now, one who is moving completely away from coffee and into the mushroom coffee alternatives, I took the plunge and purchased this item. After doing some research, I felt like this suited my needs best.

After unpacking it and giving it a good washing before taking it to work, I decided I’d give it a try. I’m really glad that I did it at home and not at work first because when I turned it on, it slowly emitted a farty egg smell and I blamed my husband for crop dusting me. Then when I asked him if it was the kettle, he stuck his nose by the spout and exclaimed, “Ew! I stuck my nose right in its b-hole!” I then poured a little bit of distilled vinegar in it and continued to boil it.

This is where my warning comes in; do not, I repeat, DO NOT walk away from this thing while it’s in boil mode!! It was shooting water out of the spout all over my counter top! Danger!

Once I let it cool off completely, I filled it back up and used the 200 degree button. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it shut itself down when it hit 200 degrees and the keep warm feature ensures that it stays there.

Overall, I’d say that it’s worth the purchase. It’s already paid itself by creating a life-long joke between my husband and I, if I do say so myself. I’d recommend washing it, putting just a tad bit of distilled white vinegar in it and running it twice that way before actually using it for tea or coffee alternative. The manufacturing smell is pretty terrible. It didn’t smell the second time around though.

Searched several reviews and decided on this one. Oxo is too expensive for my budget. I have had it for a short time and have used the green tea setting. It no longer taste bitter with the correct temperature. I have not double check the actual accuracy but it does work. It does its job and beep when its done. It is very fast. Easier than a microwave because you can never get the right temperature. Not a problem for me but it would be hard to clean by reaching your hand it but that can be solved with reaching cleaning device.

I own this product and the same kettle with the boil-only control.
I have owned and used the boil-only kettle every day for 4 years, it still looks great and works as new. I purchased this one for another place I stay sometimes.

I expect that this product will be just as trustworthy.

The caveats are that this kettle with the temp controls has three aspects that I dislike.
In my opinion these negative aspects are:
1> the handle is bigger around on this model. I find the handle on the boil-only model a little smaller and a little easier to hold (I wear XL sized men’s gloves).
2> On this model the lid does not pivot as far back as on my boil-only model. This aspect makes this model a little harder to fill.
3> This model has many more parts/buttons etc. there is even what looks like a little temp probe that sticks up through the bottom. More parts makes me wonder about it’s relative long term reliability and the temp probe makes me wonder if this model is more prone to leaking over the long run. These are clearly unrealized fears at this point.

If you want the ability to precisely control the temp of the water, this IS the kettle for you.

If you only want to boil your water, consider the other model.

When I purchased this one, the boil-only model was going to take 2 weeks to deliver and this one was available immediately. Were I to do it again, I’d wait for the boil-only model.

Hamilton Beech makes an excellent electric kettle!
