I have purchased the same coffee maker three times because I love the attributes. The only issue I have is if you let it run out of water it shuts off and you can never turn it back on. I return the first one and they replaced it. I return the second one and they replaced it. But I decided to do some research and figured out that is exactly what happened to both of the other ones. Was I was making a cup of coffee there wasn’t enough water in the reserve and the coffee maker overheated and shuts It off and you cannot turn it back on. That is the only downside. Otherwise I love it. It’s slim and fits nicely on the counter not taking up much space. It makes coffee really fast. It has five prongs on top so it’s really getting all the flavor out of the coffee pod. It just has that one little flaw. So I’d make sure that I never run out of water in the reservoir.

I purchased the K-Slim to save counter space and got rid of an older working Keurig. I gave the K-Slim the benefit of the doubt, but it failed to perform properly.

      FIRST THE GOOD

There are no bells and whistles such as temperature control, brew strength, power on timer, etc. This is in the product description, user manual and reflected in the selling price. I don’t need or want bells and whistles. I am not a picky coffee drinker so the K-Slim should have worked for me. I will even drink gas station coffee.

There is almost no waiting time for the brew to start even if refrigerated water is used. Insert a K Cup, select brew size, press the brew button and the brew will start in about ten seconds.

From my personal experience Keurig has excellent consumer support where you can make a voice call and speak with a live person. For valid warranty claims a replacement is a no hassle, with free shipping included.

      NOW THE BAD

**** ORIGINAL UNIT (single entry needle style)

Purchased October 2020. I followed the user manual descale instructions exactly. When brewing coffee, the reservoir will brew three 12-ounce cups before the add water LED is displayed. This is normal. While in descale mode instructions say to keep pressing the brew button until the add water LED is illuminated. After the third 12 ounce cup of descale solution the add water LED did not come on. So, I pressed the brew button again and the power died and the unit would not power back on.

Since the K-Slim does not have an internal water tank I suspect the unit overheated and a (should have) safety feature kicked in to prevent a possible fire. I googled my situation and found another person with the same issue. Maybe a software bug?

**** WARRANTY REPLACEMENT #1 (single entry needle style)

Replaced August 2021. No issues with the descale cycle. My issue is the amount of brew is gradually reduced to about two ounces less than the selected brew. 12oz selected=10 oz. 10 oz selected=8 oz. I confirmed the amount of water without a K Cip pod and using a measuring cup. See attached photos.

To return the unit back to the correct water dispense I will have to run one or two descale cycles. I also cleaned the unit including needles per the user guide.

The user guide says to descale every three months. To be fair a more frequent descaling may be required depending on water quality and amount of use. I use filtered tap water and we brew about four cups daily on average. I descale no more than every four weeks to return the unit back to the correct brew size. I had a couple of non K-Slim Keurigs in the past and did not have these issues.

I used the Keurig brand descale solution and a third-party generic solution with the same results. After about ten months of use I could not get the unit to operate correctly. Keurig sent a second warranty replacement.

**** WARRANTY REPLACEMENT #2 (newer “Multistream Technology” five entry needles)

Replacement July 2022. It is now mid October 2022 and it has only been about three weeks since the last descale. My 12-ounce brew is only getting 10 ounces again. Time to descale again.

      **** FINAL THOUGHTS

Keurig does make some good products, but the K-Slim is a dud. I assume I am not the only one with this K-Slim issue. I will not ask for another K-Slim warranty replacement. I am going to shop for another brewer. Maybe another model Keurig, maybe not. For the amount of money I spend on descale solution the K-Slim is not worth keeping.

      MY SPECULATION

The K-Slim does not have an internal water tank as confirmed in the following quote from Keurig:

“Unlike the other Keurig systems, the K-Slim coffee maker has no internal water tank. As a result, only the external Water Reservoir needs to be emptied prior to storing.”

The K-Slim heats water using heating tubes as it is pumped from the external reservoir. I confirmed this by watching youtube videos showing the internal parts. I suspect the design of the K-Slim does not allow the descale solution to stay in the unit long enough to do its job.

      ******** UPDATE 10/25/2020 ********

The low output of my third warranty replacement is getting worse even with descaling. I purchased another brand coffee maker. Before recycling the K-Slim I removed the cover. I added a couple of photos to this review showing the heating tube and thermal switch (safety feature) I discussed in my original review.

      ******** End Of Update ************

This is a good coffeemaker. It makes a mean cup of coffee. Especially with a re-usable K-cup and my personal choice of coffee. The only drawback is the constant need to de-scale. I live in an area with a higher level of minerals in my tap water. Not too bad but bad enough to ruin a coffee machine after 3 or 4 years. I am aware of the drawbacks of built up calcium, lime and scale on the performance of such appliances as coffeemakers, electric kettles and water pitchers as well as the lines left on water and plant pots. It is for that exact reason I use de-scaled water in my Keurig. Even so, with soft water the pitcher MUST be descaled every three months. Without exception. In addition Keurig wants you to buy a bottle of their brand-name de-scaling solution. which is not cheap. You need a greater volume of their brand name de-scaler than you would for a generic de-scaler for any other machine. It also takes about an hour which makes an easy weekday morning disappear. There are three people waiting for coffee. The de-scaling solution doesn’t seem to offer any benefit I can see since there is no mineral buildup at all in my coffee machine. There is no change in taste. In my opinion the de-scale setting is set to go off at a set period of time or after a set number of uses whether or not the machine needs maintenance yet. Unfortunately the only way to get the flashing “de-scale” light to turn off is to go online and follow Keurig’s very specific instructions for de-scaling their machines with a lot of their brand name de-scaler. If I had known I’d spend as much in de-scaler in a year as I had spent for the coffeemaker I would have gotten a different brand, saved money, saved time, shipping and aggravation. Yes, the coffee tastes good but the maintenance is hell.

Dislike: Very cheaply made plastic unlike my previous Keurig. Color is not as bright as shown, more of a muted or cinnamon red, does not come with filter assembly for water area so I just used the one from my previous Keurig, needs a special kind of refillable pod so I could not use the ones from my other keurig, have to remove bottom piece in order for 16oz refillable cup to fit.

Like: compact size, easy to use, water is hot and coffee brewing in seconds, has a 12 oz size( my other one’s largest size was a 10oz cup), red color is still very cute. Hopefully it will last a few years and not cut out as others have mentioned. I bought the 3 year warranty, just in case.

Was forced to purchase a new coffeemaker after our Instant Pot kcup/nespresso maker died a leaky death…after not quite hitting the 2 year mark. I was bummed, as we really liked the concept of that machine. Instant Pot was not helpful regarding a possible fix, so I searched for a new coffeemaker. We chose this one. Arrived same day, easy set up, easy to use. Does the job, and does it quieter, and in much less real estate than the Instant Pot.

    6. Amazon Customer

I like the product as it fits nicely into the counter space I have. It’s perfect for 1 person. It makes 2 cups in a row. It is sleek & easy to use.

Purchased this item on 6/8/2023 and after following the descaling procedure every time the coffee maker flashed to descale, today 6/24/2024 the unit would not come on the day after de scaling. I would expect a coffee maker to work much longer than this one did but it is like it was programed to fail shortly after one year so i would have to buy another one. I purchased a Kuerig because i thought it was the best but i guess i was incorrect.

I don’t typically write reviews, especially for something as trivial as a coffee maker, but this was an interesting journey. I had an ancient, by comparison, Keurig B55 that most resembles the “Classic” model they offer currently. Probably going on 11 years, it finally died. Up until that point, this portion of my counter was basically a coffee station, forcing me to do all my kitchen prep to the right of the stove, keeping the shrine to caffeine unadulterated.

I was stunned at all the variants of the Keurig line. It’s almost dizzying and makes it nearly impossible to choose one. Some quick googling showed 60+ models, most of which are still sold. Do I need 5 cup sizes (5oz – 14oz)? How about a “strong” setting? Does it do anything? A screen? Or a timer? Or a larger reservoir? What about no reservoir? Seriously, the paradox of choice here is maddening.

Having come from a “screened” maker in my previous model, I ended up opting for the K200 model. This one is about 3″ less wide that my previous maker, so that was nice. Unfortunately, it had a few issues that I simply could not work around.
      – The reservoir is U-shaped and honestly very awkward to negotiate both from a refilling and removing perspective. Especially if it’s under a cabinet, and you want to refill from a refrigerator water dispenser, as I do.
      – The coffee was simply not hot enough. Not sure if I got a bum unit, or that’s how it is, but it was significantly less hot than what I was used to.
      – No auto shut-off. Seriously. I thought this was a basic in coffee makers. This, probably the biggest deal-breaker of them all, though, mildly hot coffee was a close second.

Enter the K-Slim. I was skeptical because the reviews were, pun intended, no so hot. But the price was right, and I really liked the idea of a sub five-inch width coffee maker on my countertop. This model only has 3 cup sizes, but has the same 40oz reservoir as the K200. Even better, it’s a simple rectangle design that I can maneuver easily to and fro my fridge. Having the extra counter space has been such a nice benefit. But moreso, the coffee is hot and, so far, the machine reliable.

      What I like:
      – The coffee (Caza Trail Cona Blend) is as hot and tastes as good, possibly even stronger, than my old model
      – Auto Shut-Off! Unit turns off after 5 minutes of last brew. That might seem aggressive but…
      – Really fast water heat-up time. I was really amazed. From off to coff(ee) was only a minute or two, obviating the need for a clock/timer function.
      – Easy/obvious to use, and I really like the “level” drop in hole for the k-cup. All my others were at an angle for some reason.
      – Amazingly diminutive size for the countertop reclaim.

      What I don’t like:
      – Maybe one smaller cup size? But that’s it.

Really happy so far with this unit. Hoping it lasts me as long as the last one did.

2nd one l brought, it seems to last about 3 years. I like that it doesn’t take up counter space.

I am frustrated with this purchase and it’s threatening to turn me off of Keurig for good.

I am in a skilled nursing facility as a patient. The coffee they serve is decaf Folgers and absolutely terrible. Weak, not hot enough, tastes like they haven’t cleaned their coffee maker since the facility was new in the late 70s – and for a coffee snob like me, that’s virtually torture.

At home I have a Chemex and use that to make my coffee. Yes, I’m *that* kind of coffee snob.

That being said, I’ve had a Keruig in the house .. since before 2004. That original one lasted until 2010 when we moved and got dropped during the move. Up until then, it was used in a household with my wife and I and our two late-stage teenage boys.

The next one was just as reliable. Lasted until 2016 when we moved again, and for some reason that one just didn’t power back up after the move.

Since then – it’s been a diminishing return on the Keurig investment. Up until I got in here. My wife had gotten one – not sure the model – for her office. It was one that you had to put water in for each cup of coffee. Not a big deal – but it started acting funny. Started leaking from underneath, but just a little, until one day I hear a *pop* and it stops working all together and water went all over my little hospital table and all over me.

Enter in this KSlim. I wanted the multistream technology to try, it had a reservoir so I didn’t have to fill it up every cup, and it was still really slim and fit on my hospital tray very well. I bought it on December 23, 2023.

Here we are, the first part of June, and this one has quit working, not six months later.

A: Credit where credit is due – the multistream technology provides a marginally better (read: Stronger) cup of coffee than the normal ones. It’s still not as strong as I like it, but it is better.

B: Six months of a lifespan for a $100 coffeemaker is absolutely unacceptable.

C: It’s mocking me, because if I fuss with it long enough – eventually it’ll make one cup of coffee then stop working again.

The behavior is that the add water light won’t turn off even though the tank is full, and it won’t make coffee because of that.

Descaled about three days ago and it worked fine until now. I’ve unplugged / plugged back in, hit the brew button and the 12oz button from power off, and it pumps water just fine. Switched the type of bottled water I’ve been using from purified to spring water. Cleaned the needle as instructed on their website. I’ve burned sage, had a voodoo priestess come do a dance, had a priest come in and perform an exorcism on the room, and even cried a little. I think it was the lack of caffeine that made me cry a little.

The worst part is that I’ll try everything repeatedly for a long time and nothing changes. Then, on a whim, I’ll try it and it’ll make a cup of coffee. One. Single. Cup. Then it goes back to the same behavior.

Like I said, it’s mocking me. Sitting in it’s cozy plastic case, watching me, laughing.

Or I just could have been in this facility to long and I’ve got a cylinder that’s not up to pressure and starting to misfire.

I’ve e-mailed Keurig support and I am waiting for a response. Making phone calls in this skilled nursing facility environment is difficult as people come in and out of my room a lot.

I just cannot imagine what other troubleshooting steps there are.

So, I’m frustrated, angry, and disappointed to see how far the quality control at Keurig has fallen. I may switch over and try a Nespresso for my next machine since a friend of mine got one and won’t shut up at how amazing it is.
