This is our second go with Nespresso’s Verto line. We gave up our first one (which was the 2nd-gen model) after it broke. While it lasted a good four years, we felt that the pods were too expensive to justify buying a new machine. Loved the coffee it made, though. So, when I saw this come up, I had to have it.

The first thing I noticed is the small profile. It’s much smaller than our older machine, which is fine with us since it takes up less counter space. The machine itself is very well made like our last one and works pretty much the same way. It also looks great with the yellow color contrasting well with the gray base. Other nice touches are the dual height placement for the cup/mug plate and the fact that the water reservoir is removable.

But the best part is the coffee and espresso that it makes. Nice and dark with a thick layer of crema that tastes as good as I remember. It is noisier than our last machine while doing its thing, but not obnoxiously so. Also, because the machine is on the short side, some taller mugs and tumblers won’t fit. That doesn’t really bother us since all of our cups fit just fine. In fact, we’re actually using the shorter height setting for the cup plate. The samples are a nice bonus as well.

Wish the pods were a little cheaper, but I knew this already so really can’t complain. Besides, this will be for when I want something different for my morning brew. And for that purpose, I think the Verto Pop+ will serve me well.

I was surprised to learn while fact-checking this review that coffee **did not** reach Europe from the New World, despite its appearance at about the same time that chocolate was making its way back from Mexico, but from the Arabian Peninsula, where they may have picked up the habit from Ethiopia. I would not be moved to carry out such investigation for any old countertop coffee maker, mind you, but only for something like this superb system that takes our mind back to the roots of coffee, and makes us fall in love with it all over again, so that the half-millennial relationship with our beloved passes before our eyes!

      Yeah, it makes good coffee.

Part of the genius of this system is that it takes control of the input as well as the process by using unusual brewing pods, difficult to produce and difficult to emulate the machines that use them, so that coffee sourced from the likes of the old roastery in Hoboken whose stale, burnt coffee smells used to whaff through the local streets, coffee brewed in a thousand cheap deli’s in name only, shall ne’er pass through these steamy orifices. Oh coffee!

Like any beautiful beloved she is quirky, her brew button flashes red “no” and we don’t know what we have done wrong! Strange parts confront us with no instructions! But sometimes she does brew coffee, and this makes up for all. Oh brew, oh coffee.

The Nespresso Vertuo Pop+ is the perfect addition to a coffee drinker’s arsenal. To me, it is a step up from a Keurig, but not as expensive and complex as a full-size espresso machine that you see in coffee shops.

The machine itself is really compact and would fit into a small kitchen with ease. Please note that the lid pops up when inserting pods, so although the machine is 10.4″ high, you need additional inches to use the machine.

Set up of the Vertuo Pop is really easy. On the flap of the box, there is a QR code that will lead you right to a two minute video showing you how to set it up. All I had to do is wash the water reservoir and fill it full of water, reconnect it to the machine, turn the machine on, and press the brew button 3 times. The system cleaned itself and it was ready to brew my first cup!

In addition to the machine, the box also contained 12 different coffee and espresso pods to try. For my first cup of coffee, I decided to go with the Melozio coffee pod, which has a strength of 6. I noticed that on the pod itself, it states how many ounces the pod will make. This is different than its counterpart where you can pick the amount of coffee a pod brews. This machine doesn’t have an option to pick sizes. The pod will make what is considered the perfect size for the espresso/coffee every time. Also, because the ounces is clearly stated, you can make sure you pick the right size cup to prevent overflow.

For my first cup, the Melozio coffee was really good! From initial glance, the coffee had a layer of foam and was lighter than a normal cup of brewed coffee. However, the foam was the only part that was lighter. The coffee underneath was still black. After adding my usual amount of cream and sugar, the cup of coffee was complete. It had a really creamy flavor and would definitely be one I would drink again.

Nespresso also has an app in the iPhone and Android store that the company recommends you download. This app connects to the Vertuo Pop via Bluetooth, and lets you know the status of the machine. You can also order additional pods from the app!

My only complaint is that there are only a handful of pods to choose from. Nespresso has the patent until 2030, so you can only purchase pods from them. They allowed Starbucks to create a few flavors, but that is it. It’s also harder to locate pods at grocery stores and retail locations since it’s so new. However, the plus side is that you can order auto-ship from Nespresso so you never run out of pods.

Overall, this is an amazing machine that can make unique cups of coffee and espresso.

      Pros:
      -Compact machine
      -Easy set up
-Takes out the guesswork of what amount of ounces would be perfect for the pod. It is predetermined so you get the perfect cup of coffee each time.
-App that connects to the Vertuo Pop for status of the machine. Can also order pods from the app.

      Cons:
-Since Nespresso created the technology, they hold the patent on the pods until 2030. That means no other companies can create pods. They have allowed Starbucks to create pods, but that is all. Therefore, there are only a handful of types of pods on the market.
-Not as easy to find pods at grocery stores since it’s one of the newest type of pods.

This coffee maker looks very sleek and nice. It feels very well made too. It was easy to get set up for the first time although I was unable to connect to it with my phone since I have it at work and am unable to put it on the network and thus can’t use the online feature it says it has. I have only used it a few times now but it brews good tasting and hot coffee or espresso. I have had no issues with it leaking which is good because my previous espresso maker started randomly leaking steam from places and it fried itself in the process. This is a very nice machine but I still don’t know if it is really worth how much it costs. Unfortunately I believe unlike the original nespresso style capsules, there don’t seem to be any other versions of these vertuo capsules other than nespresso and Starbucks.

I was on the fence about another pod style coffee maker after being disappointed by the Keurig I tried but this is completely different. The machine comes with a sample pack of coffee pods in 3 different sizes from espresso shots to full cups of coffee and make a great cup of coffee. It’s also super easy to use and set up, only requiring a quick rinse cycle before it’s ready to go. Then, just pop in the pod you want and press the button.

I also really like that the pods are aluminum, not plastic. The company will send you an envelope to mail your spent poss back but it’s easy enough to just open them up, dump the ground, and toss the pod in the recycling bin with more confidence that it will actually be recycled than if it was a plastic pod.

This is a fantastic looking De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo machine. Clean lines. Nice soft “burnt” orange coloring that can go with any kitchen decor. The simplicity of consistency of the machine and the coffee it produces using the Vertuo sized capsules is amazing.

Having said that, I have been a 20 year user of the “standard” Nespresso Capsules. Have owned three of these machines and love them to death. I wanted to do a comparison of the Vertuo Coffee vs the Standard Capsule and you can see the results above. Note that the Vertuo (on the left in the 3rd photo) is a single shot espresso and the Standard Nespresso on the right is essentially a 2x shot). Pictures 4 and 5 show the crema from the top. I noted in multiple pours, that the Vertuo produces a “foamier” crema than the Standard Nespresso shot which produces more of a creamier crema (which I prefer).

A further note on the Vertuo. The capsules are perfectly calibrated for FOUR Different Types/Sizes of coffee. You Don’t have to adjust the water at all. Espresso, Double Espresso, with Milk, and a Long (or American). The machine comes with a 12 capsule sample pack that allows you to experiment between type, strength, and size of coffee. It takes a while but once you have determined your favorites it’s easy.

I had the big brother version of the Nespresso virtuo coffee maker that I paid nearly $300.00 for about six years ago
I really enjoyed the coffee it made but didn’t have the space for it
This is a great little brother
Smaller footprint, includes the frother and brews the same coffee
What I like about these Nespresso machines is that they can read the top of the pod and brew accordingly Just the right amount of water and temperature
Brews the same cup of coffee each time depending on the pod
The pods are a little bit on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for
Plus you can’t go wrong with the De’Longhi
And at this price for certain

Great machine, it really cranks out a good little espresso in addition to coffee! The machine footprint is small which is great for my already full kitchen. There is a QR code on the lid that takes you to a video that explains how to set up and work this machine. I greatly appreciated that! 12 pods of coffee and espresso are also included to get you going. The machine is a bit louder than others I have had, but that isn’t a dealbreaker for me. Also the pods are only available from Nespresso so that is a bummer. Auto ship is available so I will be doing that so I never run out. The yellow and dark grey color combo is different, but makes the machine stand out. Overall a good choice especially if you only have a small area to work with!

      If you’re new to nespresso-
welcome, the pod expenses will add up overtime and re-stocking so you don’t run out will become a regular scramble but it’s otherwise extremely easy and quite a good cup of coffee. Pairs well with a milk/cream frothing machine IMO..

If you’re upgrading from an old nespresso vertuo machine-
the closing mechanism is less satisfying/clear IMO, it took a while for me to realize there is a slight gap in the top/yellow area and the bottom/black area where it locks before powering on. The locking is much less elegant IMO but it’s fine.
And this one is SHORT so if you use regular sized drinking glasses like us, you’ll need to prop the machine up on a platform to be able to fit your machine under the dispenser. We have a drawer platform for pods to fit in and thus we need to put this on a diagonal so the drawer can open below this. It looks quite wonky but I don’t see any pop specific secure platforms on the market (I guess they force you to buy the pop plus this way).
Also the water tank is not repositionable so if your envisioned coffee station area is not convenient for easy left side filling maybe consider the plus idk..

The color is cute and as expected though! And I love that this came with a variety tasting pack, although the listing saying “More than 30 coffees With different aromas, intensities & flavors” kind of made me think they’d send all 30…
