Preheat function, rack positions, baking without convection (yes you can), etc
1…the FIRST thing you should do is line the crumb tray with foil or a silicone oven liner to make clean-up easier. I cut down a larger sheet of oven liner to fit and weighted it down with a couple of old butter knives that will now live there for the life of the oven.
2…clean it after each use. This could mean a quick wipe-down OR a “roll up your sleeves and get in there!” kind of clean. In other words, don’t leave anything to get baked on the NEXT time you use the oven! The space in which you’re cooking is small and those splatters don’t have very far to go to hit the walls, bottom, and the top of the inside and, when baked on by repeated use, can turn out to be a PAIN to clean!!!
3…understand that this Ninja’s “Preheat” function is NOT a true preheat, but more of a “knock the chill off the oven” function. To preheat prior to baking, place the grate in your desired position (see#4), add an additional 10 – 15 minutes to the time, and slap a good oven thermometer on the grate…when it hits the temp, allow an additional 3 – 5 minutes for the temp to stabilize, remove it, adjust your time, and get to cooking.
4…suggested rack positions are simply that…suggestions. For example, the suggested rack position for “bake” is #3, and that might be fine if you’re baking a tray of cookies or something that’s no thicker than a sheet pan, but if you’re baking sandwich bread in a loaf pan or anything with a lot of height, the top will brown FAR too quickly as it’s VERY close the the top elements. Drop the rack to #4 (bottom-most position) for a sandwich bread that will rise well above the pan…#3 is best for something with little-to-no spring like a lot of “quick breads”. Either way, place the loaf pan in the middle of the rack so that the bottom elements are not directly underneath the pan and have a piece of foil ready to tent the top of the loaf once it’s the shade of brown you’re looking for.
5…speaking of “baking”, as I don’t use convection when I bake (“bake”, as in breads/cookies, etc), not having the ability to disengage the fan almost stopped me from buying this unit, but I decided to go ahead and give it a shot anyway (I’m old, but not too old to adapt and change!). Fortunately, you CAN bake without having to use the fan…use the “Reheat” function (no fan!) as the time/temp adjusts the same as the bake function. I baked a 4x4x13 loaf using the reheat function and it came out perfectly by rotating once halfway through the bake and tenting the top once it got as brown as I wanted.
Bottom line, consider WHAT it is you’re baking and WHERE it needs to be placed in the oven for optimal, even heat distribution REGARDLESS of whether you use the fan or not. Keep an eye on it and adjust accordingly.
6…I don’t air-fry often, so keep that in mind here (wink). I AF’d country-fried frozen beef patties, beer-battered frozen fish filets, and onion rings with no issues. What I’ve found is a great use for this AF (so far) is reheating/reCRISPING breaded leftovers and cold pizza (it does an EXCELLENT job on those!).
As for pizza, I haven’t tried cooking a hand-made pizza in it yet (never cared for frozen pizza), but it’s on my list. I ordered a 10″ cast iron comal to use as a “pizza stone” (cooking for one here) and it just arrived yesterday, so that’s gonna happen this weekend.
Anyway, so far, so good. I hope this long and rather wordy review/tips helps. I’m not sure if I can “update” a review at a later date, but if I can, I’ll do so.
Now crank that puppy up and get to cooking! 🙂
UPDATE – after 6 months of use it’s still cooking great…VERY pleased with this oven! Had to grab a “handle-less” CI skillet so I could make my cornbread (it’s a southern thing!) and I haven’t gotten around to baking a homemade pizza yet, but I HAVE “embraced” using convection…LOL!

This oven has so many outstanding reviews, and now I know why. One of the best investments for my kitchen I’ve ever made.
It’s fast. Pre-heat for any function is less than a minute. Just seconds and it’s at temp. Think about all the energy saved, not to mention prep time. Meals get served quickly!
Air fry function really delivers. Things like frozen nuggets, tots, egg rolls, etc come out like they’re freshly deep fried. You’re getting healthier versions of comfort food at home, with little mess. If you’re going to eat something “less healthy,” why not be able to get the most out of the flavors and textures. Again, food cooks so fast, it’s pretty mind boggling. The air fry tray is quite large, so a lot of food can be cooked at once. I use air fry to do a lot of things- even get the excess moisture out of pre-scrambled egg whites.
The pizza setting makes frozen pizza taste better than delivery. Again, quickly! We keep frozen cheese pizzas in the freezer for quick dinners. I cut up some veggies and toss them on. 9 minutes later dinner is ready. I consider this oven to save us a lot of money. No more delivery pizza. We get exactly what we want, made how we want, for a fraction of the price.
Set it and forget it- pretty much. With so many pre-sets and options, I can put a meal in and go about my business without having to check the oven constantly. That means I can clean the kitchen and get things done around the house without being tied to the stove. I’m not saying it’s totally sentient, just that it’s smarter than the really nice conventional oven in my kitchen.
Space to cook. This thing has room in it. Yeah, it takes up some real estate on the counter, but not so much that it feels like it doesn’t belong. Being able to cook multiple things at once is really nice. I use the square Corning ware casserole dishes for most of my baked dishes, and I can bake two of them at once. It’s a nice balance of compact kitchen appliance and usable cooking space. Can I cook a turkey in it? Eh, probably not, but a chicken, yep. Not many limitations to this oven, and that is so nice.
Having a countertop oven means I can see my food easily, and it’s easy to pop things in the oven, and take them out. If you have health issues that make bending over difficult, I can see this appliance making life easier on you. I roast peppers a lot, and I like being able to glance over and see how the charring is progressing. Small, simple things like this add to its charm.
The controls are on the handle. That means there’s more overall cooking space in the oven. Clever idea, Ninja.
Doesn’t heat up the kitchen like a regular oven. Enough said.

I am not a domestic goddess and I don’t write a lot of reviews but I had to write one for the Ninja air feuer toaster oven. I totally love it and it has transformed.what I can do in the kitchen!! After hours (probably days) of checking different air fryer toaster ovens and readond 100s of reciews I ordered the ninja dt251 (and grateful.it was on special).
I was terrified it would be complicated and I would not be able to operate it, but it came with great instructions, even each box is well labeled and it is very easy. It is so much prettier than I expected and it fits well on our countertop, actually taking up less width than our larg microwave. There is a good 4″ clearance under the top cabinets and it does not radiate a lot of heat, yes it is warm to touch while it is going but I am not worried anyone will get burnt on it.
I did wash everything and do the preheat as recommended and have used it three times now, for fries, a Bundt cake (my first cake in years!!, it was not a big mixture as I was worried it might do something wierd like overflow out of the pan, but I could have doubled the mixture) And dry roasting (on air fryer mode) cashews. All came out evenly cooked and Jimmy.
I love love this, after living with an old gas oven (that was literally taped together but we didn’t realize when we bought the house) and it uses heaps of gas (expensive!) And it gives off a lot of heat. Since we are in the throws of other major house repairs we have not even considered a new oven due to the cost, but the Ninja 10 in 1 is a lot less than having a new oven I stalled and I can cook everything we used to enjoy plus more. So glad I was looking at toaster ovens and found tthis, the degree of thought and design in these is so clear, even the nice little feet they have that won’t scratch your bench. Beautiful, if you are considering this, I would encourage you to!!

We’re only about a week in of using our new Ninja. So far we’re very happy with the overall performance. The controls are easy to figure out and use. The Ninja preheats super fast, cooks very evenly, and the convection is slightly faster than our regular electric oven. We purchased a bamboo cutting board that sits on top of the Ninja. It has heat resistant feet and allows hot air to circulate out and is a very handy place to set a pan on coming out of the oven or keeping the instructions and a pair of mitts right with the oven. Good oven mitts are a must! The oven gets very hot. Fingered mitts are my next purchase. As other reviewers mentioned it is a bit noisy because of the fan but not a big deal. The crumb tray on the bottom catches crumbs, liquid spills, etc. slides out easily for cleaning. Definitely wipe the interior down after each use or two after it cools down. Overall we are extremely happy. I will post a follow up review when I’ve used more of the functions.

I thought the whole air fryer thing was just a silly meme for a long time, but consider me a convert. This thing has made baking my large batches of chicken breast significantly easier, and with far less oil, in half the time. I also use it to roast carrots, make toasted sandwiches, and bake pastries! What I’ve come to recognize is that I hardly ever need the full capacity of my conventional oven, so all that time spent preheating it is a total waste, when this one preheats in a mere 2 minutes. The product itself is very reliable, distributes heat evenly, and is very easy to use. The manual explains pretty much everything I would want to know, and the interface is also very convenient.
My only words of warning to folks who haven’t used air fryers before is that you really should try to make sure it is plugged on its own dedicated circuit, because it does draw a lot of electricity! If you have multiple things running on the same circuit, you run the risk of tripping the breaker. The other thing is to be mindful of where you place your food when baking in two trays. It comes with two normal trays, a drip tray, and a basket. If using two trays to air fry, say, chicken and carrots at the same time, the one at the top will likely have much more moisture accumulate on it than the one at the bottom. For situations like that, use the basket instead so that the moisture isn’t trapped at the top, and airflow is uninterrupted. This is not a fault of the product, it’s just how moisture works.
In all, fantastic product, and it has absolutely convinced me of the wonders of air fryers/convection ovens.

I like the size of the machine. It is easy to use but cools very differently than smaller air fryer ovens. Things take a lot longer to cook and I would definitely use a thermometer to check your meats. It is easy to clean, is sturdy with many grates and pans for various cooking applications. It works well and does what it’s supposed to but it is big. I put it on a metal wire cart with wheels and store it in my pantry when not in use and wheel it out when I want to use it.

We like everything about this Ninja. We have had one for 5 years and didn’t put in the effort to keep it really clean. So we order a new one we hope will last at least another 5 years. Put foil over the bottom drip place from the beginning. And, as the instructions warn, don’t put the black broiler or pan in the dishwasher. My wife loves the air fry function and I love the broil function for buttered buns and/or bread. Three minutes on hi from the third level is perfect. Hot dogs at 5 mins a side are delightful. Enjoy!

We bought this on reading its reviews to replace a Brevelle oven we had for a few years. It toasts bread as it should, air frys wonderfully and bakes as it should. The capacity is just right and Its controls are easy to use. The digital display is clear and easy to read, even from far away. As some said it can be noisy, especially when air frying but it’s comparable to how the Brevelle sounded. One thing to note is the inside is steel and cleaning can be a bit difficult as I think just about every oven like this is. I wish it had a self cleaning mode. All in all very happy with it and highly recommended.

Seems high quality, cooks quickly, easy to clean (so far), seems like it will last a while, and is the perfect size for my tiny home! I’ve used this appliance twice since it arrived last week and it made the most delicious wings (crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside) and sweet potato fries in just 40 minutes! I’m so impressed with this appliance and I can’t wait to get a muffin pan and cake pan so I can start baking!

Wow…what a great product. An excellent example of industrial design. Functions are easily accessed. Many/most have a memory so that once you figure out the best settings for your morning toast, those settings automatically appear when the toast function is selected. Having all of the controls in the handle is excellent, as is the air fryer function. Overall, this product looks and performs great.
