We live in a cooler climate and have a gas stove. We used to live in a hot climate (also with a gas stove). For whatever reason, since moving here, trying to boil water on our stove takes an obscenely long time. Ridiculously long. IF it even reaches a boil. We aren’t sure if it’s the stove or the climate, or a mix, or what.

We got an electric kettle for tea and coffee, and that really opened up our eyes to the issue. A handful of minutes and we had boiling water, vs 1/2 hour or more. So, I started looking around, trying to find a pot version, so we could cook in the same manner (something with a coil inside the pot and a base that it sits on that sends the electricity into that coil). I see hotpots, but I really need the ability to scrub and clean whatever we cook with as I have food allergies and my husband does not (and we often eat separate meals because of it, which means cooking separately, as well). Most hotpots that I found were “rinse and wipe”, which are no good for me, unless I dedicate one solely as “my own”. And that means either buying two (his and hers) or he has to suffer the endless waiting for boiling. Two hotpots = twice as much money and twice as much space taken up. No thank you.

So, I decided to try a single burner. I spent days trying to decide on what type. My husband prefers all-things-gas, as he likes the flames for cooking. I do not. I actually see times and uses for gas, and times and uses for electric. I sit nicely on that fence and have no preference overall, just “in the moment”. So, since we suspect that some of the issue is heat loss with open flames, I narrowed my search to electric burners. I read up everything I could on the various types, and I am tempted by induction, but I fear the noise and the restriction of type of pan/pot. Maybe someday, but not right now.

I decided on infrared. I went with this brand based on reviews and price. I am not disappointed.

By no means is it as fast as it might be if it were something more like my kettle with an internal heating element inside of a pot, nor would it compete with induction. But, boy howdee is it faster than my stovetop! I can have dinner within 20 minutes rather than still waiting for the water to heat up, half an hour in…

So, we are impressed and happy with this unit.

Oh my gosh you guys, this thing is awesome!! It genuinely heats your stuff up so much quicker than any burner I’ve ever seen in my life!
It’s quick- it’s easy to clean- I don’t need to say more. Just remember to turn It off and unplug it immediately after use- because it is so powerful. What a great product! I can’t say this enough- this is the best thing ever!!

The heating speed is fast, but the smoothness of the bottom of the pot is required. If the bottom of your pot is not level, it will heat unevenly.

The Ovente countertop burner with ceramic glass is an excellent addition to any kitchen, surely. It heats up very fast, and very hot provides an easy-to-use device that does not take much to place & start using and eventually gives excellent cooking results as soon as you get used to it. However, that’s only in the first couple of months of using the product.

I bought it because I wanted an alternative to cook things that didn’t use gas. This way I could prepare foods such as omelets, fried & boiled eggs, sausages, etc. that didn’t take much time and still receive a great result. But after two months of getting a more-than-decent experience, the burner started to have a few problems.

Firstly, the burner started to lose the indication numbers for heat level. This started happening in the first month, without the numbers it started to become a little difficult to know what was the heat level, until I got accustomed and made the indications myself with a permanent colored marker. It was a bit problematic, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Secondly, the burner turned on and off while heating. It was a sort of heat protection (I think) that keeps the device from overheating. The problem with this is that the first three levels of heating didn’t work when the device sensed overheating. Really I couldn’t say what that was, but it happened every time I used the burner for more than 5 minutes. It eventually got annoying to hear the burner go on and off, and a little frustrating I could use the first three levels. However, of course, I could live with this.

Thirdly, the ceramic glass on the large side fell off after two months of use. I bought this burner in July and started using it in August. By October, the ceramic glass on the large side of the burner fell off. I don’t know how it was attached to the device, but the glass separated from the metal and was sliding off from its place every time I had to place/move the device. I tried gluing it to the device again with temperature-resistant glue, but it fell off two weeks later once again. So it left it like that. Until yesterday.

Yesterday while cleaning the device, I turned it 90º by mistake, and the ceramic glass fell to the floor. Here, you can imagine what happened later. A bunch of broken glass I had to swipe off, and an almost useless large burner on the device that I don’t know how to fix.

So, I could say this device works well when it comes to performance. It may become a little problematic after a month or two, but nothing that would really damage your cooking. However, it is not as dependable or resistant as you would hope.

I used it almost every day, so it is easy to say that I might have overused it. However, of course, that’s not an excuse for a product that should have lasted more, or at least not give that many problems in such a short period.

I give it three stars because it performs well, but it loses two because it could be a little more durable & reliable. Overall, however, it is a great option for the price, as long as you are going to use the device every now and then, and still being aware that after a few hundred uses it could start presenting a few issues.

It heats up high and fast, for me the bigger eye brings water to a boil but the smaller eye seems to just get it to boiling but not quite boiling. Only suggestion is if you use cleaning chemicals (sprays, that kinda stuff) don’t spray and wipe the numbers on the knobs. The numbers will come off the knobs if wiped too hard!
